when I am changing , i remove with  http://www.eakin.eu/release-adhesive-remover

I use the spray to remove the baseplate , I use a water wipe to remove output , then I use the adhesive remover wipe , this is our version of safe n' simple , then I clean again with water wipes , let dry and pray for no output (eating marshmallows helps if you eat some before changing)

then I apply stoma powder if needed , remove excess stoma powder

apply seal around stoma , I use coloplast seals at present

apply baseplate/wafer

attach bag and hold down gently with palm of hand for a minute of so

and that's it .

ps hey Eric this photo shows baseplate after two days

photo of stoma showing how much erosion of baseplate , do not view if graphic photos of stoma with some output would offend you .

It looks like there's a gap between your skin and stoma in that photo on the bottom. Water (and output) can get in between that, so just keep an eye out to make sure it doesn't happen often.

Personally, as long as the skin looks good, I wouldn't worry about what the wafer looks like :)

Just your friendly neighborhood ostomate.

Ya Tony- maybe make the ekin seal (or what ever u use) a little smaller? Bag Master is right to me-base plate looks happy-just getting a little crusted. If it itches, CHANGE IT!!!!!

I may be headed that way. 3 days of pain and explosive totally liquid output make me think I may be headed to ER.  Will see what happens

thanks Eric I will have to get a more accurate cut out of the baseplate and I might even try out putting the seal on the baseplate

Your sea is not close to the stoma.. the seal when u put it on as I do it and others at my support group-we take the seal and apply it to the opening on the base plate --- like a pie crust.. look at your picture-you should see the sealing NEXT to your stoma..  Get what I am saying? do a dry run on the plastic part that u take off the base plate-do not make it to thick..

have fun.......

What I am doing now is I cut the seal in half-roll it and seal it like a pie crust-I found that I don't get irrations anymore-

I might try that Marcie but the last leak that I had was last January and my skin is ok apart from one blip  .

I dont want to change things too much and tempt faith , its working for me at the moment and apart from not cutting the base plate as accurate I could this time and  the seals are designed to expand and make up for this . Thanks for all the comments and help.

I had an illeostmy 3 years ago and do rinse virtually ever time, just using tap water. I use a Hollister 2 piece. What I normally do is separate the pouch from the wafer and use what is called a chemical wash bottle to rinse from the top. Go the web site of Grainger and search for chemical wash bottle for photos. Warming the exit tube you can change the bend to be straighter which allows for easy flushing of the pouch. The center tube in the bottle would be removed to squirt downwards once the bottle is turned upside down. Takes a little time to to get use to this process, no doubt there will be little tricks you will find on your own such as I did.

I also use a mixture of baby oil and baby gell to lubricate from the top almost every time.  In addition at times use Adapt lubricant mixed with baby gell to create a thicker mixture also both will be shaken prior to use. The Adapt bottle or something similar would do for for dispensing the mixture from the top.

Let me know how the process works or if you have further questions. Not new to the forum just needed to reset my password.

I rinse every time now again . I just use a small water bottle 6 or 8 oz. with tap water . I use a Hollister 2 piece with lock n roll end the clip end got to be uncomfortable so I changed and I like this one better . I dump the poop first . Then through the lock n roll end I pour the bottle of water hold the end up swish the water around to the top of my bag and around the barrier then dump it out . Then I use a mixture of Adapt lubricating deodorizer baby oil and  small amount of hydrogen peroxide .

By rinsing from the top will allow downward gravity plus the squeezing the bottle will create a more force full stream of water to flush the pouch.
