Hello all,

I just learned that convatec now has a new eakin seal called  Eakin freeseal versa. I'm allergic to the original eakin seal but the rep told me about these new ones they make, and they don't leave a gunky mess on you.

They lift off one piece instead of leaving all that gunk on your skin like most rings, do. They are not silicone either. There's supposed to be amazing for liquid output as well and They are sending me a sample, so i'm very excited about this because i'm sick of the sticky mess. Maybe I won't be allergic to this one either.

So I just thought I'd post this to let everyone know that there's a new barrier ring out there.

Chelly, although I have never needed to use an Eakin seal, it’s good to hear when companies improve their products. I hope this works for you, and that it doesn’t cause an allergic reaction. I know you’ll let us know when you’ve tried it.

I first thought, "it must be silicone", then you mentioned that it's not. Pretty cool!

They really should update their site to make it clear what the differences are. They only mention that the versa is thick, and their "air" product is thin, but they say the same with their original Cohesive "slim" version, too.

As Laurie said, if you try them, let us know how it goes!

Hi,
Yes im excited. I have to try it next week when i don't have anything going on and i can just sit home and watch for potentioal leaks itchyness.

Ill definatly come back to give an update. They sent me 2 rings. If these workout lt may stop all this barrier ring getting eaten away from water and stool thing i have going on. I read they can hold up to 4 x water and do not make this sticky, soupy mess and come off in one piece.

Im trying out the new eakin seal today but she sent me the thinner one called eakin freeseal air. It also is supposed to come off in one piece without the sticky mess. This thinner one might be better yet since im in a convex pouch already.

Ill be back to give my experience with.this new seal soon. Of this can solve my break down and sticky issue with no other problems, i will be one hspoy lady.

Ok i'm back with my review on these seals. As I stated in the post before, they are the free seal, the skinny ones not the versa thicker one.

What convatec states about that  It feels like you have nothing on is true. You don't even know it's there. You feel like you just have on your bag. It's not heavy nothing, and they changed the formula, so I don't break out in a big ugly, angry rash around where the ring was like I did with the cohesive seals.

It held up for my day's worth of rinses, not like the hollister. Cera ring that thing after 2 rinses, it would be over with and melting. This thing did not melt. Although towards the end of 24 hours. I changed mine anyway. But after twenty four hours, then I took it off, it, mostly did come off in one please accept for  area to the right where I had this stubborn adhesive that I can't get off from the cera rings. It got a little sticky over there. But I think once I get all that cleaned up, it's gonna be good.

When I rinsed, I felt no water getting under the barrier. Whatsoever, like I do with the hollister, cera ring. I find this amazing i've been struggling so long with this thing.

I was so happy about this that I called my rep, where I get my supplies. And asked if I could trade these in, so we're doing that. So she's gonna have then send me those out.And I'll start getting those from now on.

I didn't notice that they made changes to my bag though. The material seems a little cheaper and the bags are crinkling , making potatoe chip bag noises and also the tape boarder is more plasticky.Instead of like cloth tape, that was breathable before. But my rep told me a lot of these companies can't get the supplies. They need to make them  so that's why they're having to make changes.

But anyhow, anybody who is allergic to the old cohesive seals, I would definitely try these because I absolutely got no rash, those cohesive seals I used to get a bad angry.Angry rash. They make the thicker ones too called the versa, and I guess they're made the same way.

@chelly This sounds really promising! Glad to hear that the first try was successful; subsequent tries will build on this. Thanks Chelly, for being the first to try this new product, and letting us know the results.😃

@chelly Wow, it's fantastic to hear how well they worked for you. And they're the thinner ones?!

I'm really curious to know what they've made it out of, if not silicone, to make them as durable as that!

And I can understand about supply issues, but if they are cheaping out on worse materials, it should be reflected in the price of these products! It's annoying that brand name supplies have gone up, up, up every year, but the quality gets worse.

Meanwhile, the cheapo $2 bags I've been using punch well above their weight!

Thanks for sharing. The sticky residue is probably my biggest complaint with barrier rings so the one piece removal sounds promising. Interested to hear how the sample works out especially whether it holds up well with higher output and if it causes less skin irritation than original Eakin seals.

@quietmiso

It mostly does come off on one piece. The only time I had a problem was when I cleaned my peristomo area with soap, and I guess the soap buildup made it get gummy and stuck on me. it's a new formula. So it doesn't irritate your skin like the old eakin rings at all. I was very allergic to those.

She sent me the thin ones but I think I could do better with the thicker ones because I rinse but they're not melting inside the bag though like the hollister does.

Will do. I will post an update once I have had a chance to test them for a bit.

I used this new seal yesterday again and it did melt although not as much as the hollister ones. I was able to pull a big portion off it off using a dry 4x4 with my fingers. When i got that off there was some stubborn sticky stuff i had to get off but im only noticing this if i use soap to clean the peristonal skin. If i dont use soap and just water it does stay in a ring shape and come off nicely..

So im.still experimenting with all of these things to see whats working and whats not.

I can tell you for certain that i have no irritation from these new eakin rings like i do with the regular cohesive ones.
