Linda, My stoma opens to the side-my right side. The mucus fistula is cut into the stoma on the other side of the hole in my skin. So my stoma has the main opening to the right and another opening to the left. Output mostly comes out the main hole, but sometimes out the fistula as well. It all basically goes into the bag, but does end up causing more leaks. -Liza
