Hi Eric, I think that a big plus on this will be the fact its kind to skin and adapting well to different body shapes. Those 2 points make for a Happy Ostomate, Cheers for the review. As rating we could have the smile test for different products reviewed lol. ileostomy 31st August 1994 for Crohns I've been told that my thumbnails give away the conclusion! LOL Yes, the wafer technology and conformability of the tape border is a very strong combination! Just your friendly neighborhood ostomate. I tried the convex version (#8990) of this Hollister product - precut to 3/4" (19mm). I currently use a Hollister 2-piece, ceraplus system and have liked it. I echo Eric's sentiments about the "cheap" fabric fraying. Additionally, even tho' you're supposed to be able to tuck the tail up into the pouch, it just falls out eventually. This is very annoying as I am a petite person and this pouch is way too long for my frame. I have the same length problem with the 2-piece, but I end up sticking velcro dots on the tail and right under the flange which allows me to fold up the pouch to about 7" and it's perfect. The wafer size is large for someone with a small frame, low weight - really too big for me. Finally - the filter - as with any one piece, there is no way to "burp" the bag, and for me, the filter became quickly clogged and useless. I tried putting an osto-vent on the bag, but ... well, I guess I'm not a fan of going to a bunch of extra prep work outside of my "dots". For now, I'm staying with a 2-piece. Thank you sharing that! I resort to using the velcro trick to keep the outlet up sometimes. It's a shame we have to do that, but it does still work. Just your friendly neighborhood ostomate. Hi. Thank you for your great review. Am looking forward to trying this pouch when we get it in N.Zealand. The pouch I use is Pelican 1 piece, which is the best I have tried so far ( 9 years on)! It has an inspection window and a velcro dot to keep the tail up. And stays on. But I am still waiting for the miracle pouch to be made!? Cheers and good luck to all. Ngaire. Sounds like the Pelican product is a keeper! Glad to hear it works well for you! Just your friendly neighborhood ostomate. I love reading your reviews. I use Hollister 89511 which is also large, I am tall and at 68 body has definately spread some so manage with it ok. Have you reviewed any deep convex bags? thanks Hi Sami, Because my stoma isn't indicated for convexity, I probably will never review a convex appliance. I may do product overviews of some convex appliances, but I wouldn't be able to give any real use feedback. Just your friendly neighborhood ostomate. I am 6 months new to the ileostomy life. I love my renewed health. I recently had hernia repair and had to change to 8958 convex hollister appliance. I had to give up my smaller appliances for the convex appliance. I have to give hollister kudos for their customer service. They take their time with you and leave new users feeling more confident. Thank you for your videos. It's helpful for us newbies. Thanks for the Velcro dot idea to shorten the bag. They are to long for me as well since my torso is shorter. Thanks for sharing that, Martha. I'm glad they were able to help! Just your friendly neighborhood ostomate. The ostomy nurse at the hospital started me out with Hollister products. While I found they do the job, they do look and feel cheaply made. I find the filters in particular are not worth spit. I've lost track of how many times I have woken in the middle of the night or in the morning and the pouch is blown up like the Good Year blimp. The filters on the Coloplast samples I had sent to me recently work much better. One thing I do like about the Hollister products is their size, or rather the length of their spout for emptying the pouch. I find it long enough to minimize or prevent backsplash. Thank you for sharing, Kelvin. Do you have an ileostomy or colostomy? Some filters work better than others, depending on the type of ostomy. But nearly all of them will fail pretty quickly, in my experience (ileostomy). Which appliance have you ultimately settled on? Just your friendly neighborhood ostomate. @veganostomy, I've had a colostomy since late April of this year. Been a learning experience to say the least lol. I have found both Hollister and Coloplast each have their good points and their weak points. Too bad they can't take the best of each and put them into one product. I have a few Hollister pouches I will keep for in case of emergency. Otherwise, I will be using the Coloplast products. I find Coloplast's Sensura Mio's filter actually works so I don't have to empty or burp the pouch eight plus times a day, which can get annoying. Too bad they can't take the best of each and put them into one product. This would be holy grail, for sure. A lot of people want to see this happen. I'm glad the Mio filters work for you. Colostomates have better luck with filters, and they do make a difference when they work! I hope you continue to have a positive experience! Just your friendly neighborhood ostomate.
