Hi Everyone, I have had a small granuloma beside my stoma since I had my surgery. it has never been any trouble but recently its has bled a little when I have been changing and been a little sore as well. I was wondering about any one else,s experience. ileostomy 31st August 1994 for Crohns My WOCN recommended to me that i should take a sheet of silver something or calcium something , cut it into little slivers of 1 " x 1/4" and lay it directly on the granular area under the wafer . It took a few weeks and it cleared up. If your WOCN agrees, etc. It is aggrevating. Have you ever been asked to use silver nitrate? It chemically cauterizes the granuloma and may help. I've never had granulomas before, but I have used silver nitrate sticks. Just your friendly neighborhood ostomate. Hi Eric, yep the stoma nurse mentioned that to me but the way they described it seemed to be a treatment only done by medical staff. ileostomy 31st August 1994 for Crohns Hi Eric, yep the stoma nurse mentioned that to me but the way they described it seemed to be a treatment only done by medical staff. I guess it depends! I had a nurse use it on me, but I have a friend who does it herself. Just your friendly neighborhood ostomate. Hi All, just a heads up on this granuloma, the stoma nurse give me a product Convatec orabase paste. I have to say its working well, just a little applied before putting on the wafer. she tells me its much the same sort of product used to treat mouth ulcers! I have to also add this nurse has been brilliant. when I rang for an appointment the waiting time was 2/3 weeks. so she said if I could come in at 8.30am before her other appointments she would see me the next day. ileostomy 31st August 1994 for Crohns A bouquet of flowers is deserved. I wish all WOCNs were like that. Z Excuse me :) May I ask what a Granuloma is?  Thanks They are little bumps that can form around or on the stoma (any anywhere else on the body for that matter! You can do an image search for "granuloma stoma" and see, but I will warn you that some images are quite intense. Just your friendly neighborhood ostomate. Hi Kerby, yep they can be quite nasty and need lasered, the one I have has been their for years but has become bother some and sore but small. The paste I have been given is by convatec and I think it should be available most places ileostomy 31st August 1994 for Crohns Hi All, just to give some feed back on my Granuloma, it has reduced well not as sore would describe it as uncomfortable. The convatec paste has been quite effective. Kerby I had mine from I had my stoma and no trouble but for some reason I can,t say it became sore and started to bleed. (only a little) I am attaching the link to the convatec site so you can have a look at the paste. you may not need to start any treatment and always best to have this cleared with the stoma nurse or medical staff first. https://www.convatec.co.uk/products/pc-stoma-other-products-brands/orabase-paste#  ileostomy 31st August 1994 for Crohns Thank you so much for info..  It's not hurting or bleeding just not comfortable looking at it!  Would b nice to have it gone.  As, always I check to make sure it's safe to use. Thanks again. Hi John. I tried to order a sample just now thru Convatec. I'm in United States, says my address doesn't exist. I looked thru my Convatec order book didn't see it. I will call Hollister and ask. I may not b able to get it here yet. Won't give up. Thanks again. Okay. I can order.  Is this a healing paste or just a protective barrier?  ileostomy 31st August 1994 for Crohns I will figure this out. For now, my Surgeons Nurse said not to worry unless becomes more intense. The Nitrite Eric mentioned sounds good. I believe I've heard of that. I'm fine for now. Unless it's an actual healing as in medicinal paste, just covering it up wont heal it, protect yes. This paste helps to heal, A little is applied on the granuloma and then the ring/seal. The paste seems to be the first form of treatment used by the stoma nurses over here. if it don,t work then the other treatments come into play. in extreme cases lazering will be used ileostomy 31st August 1994 for Crohns Hi John. Although in Canada we have the oral version : https://www.convatec.ca/products/pc-stoma/5b380653-5a87-4bcc-b0bc-78260301da0e Sounds like an interesting product and I'd love to know if any alternatives from other companies exist. Best bet would be to ask ConvaTec directly as they may offer the same product under a different name in the US. Just your friendly neighborhood ostomate. Hi All, Although in my last post I had said the paste has been working this granuloma decided that it was very happy in its new home. The results where good at the start but it just will not shift! my stoma nurse is going to cauterize it on Friday!! ileostomy 31st August 1994 for Crohns
