We went for our first hike since surgery - about 2.5 months post-op.  About 4 miles and 1500 feet elevation gain.  No ostomy or hydration problems to report.  It's nice to get out again.  Keep moving forward!

That's so great! Your family is as beautiful as the scenery!

If you don't mind me asking ... looks like you are wearing jeans.  Was it comfortable to be out so long, in form fitting jeans moving around so much?  Just curious if you did something to help make it comfortable?  Did you wear a belt, did you eat any differently beforehand to limit output? Thx. :-)

@lynne

Hi Lynne.  They're actually hiking pants.  Kind of nylon material with an elastic waistband.  They look pretty form-fitting the way that I am sitting, but they are actually quite loose.  I didn't do anything different as far as output is concerned.  I drank a liter of water before the hike to get hydrated.  We were out for about 4 hours, and I didn't empty the bag.  I emptied before heading out.  If we had been out longer, I think I would have had to empty out there.  I typically eat pretty light during the day.  I do wear an ostomy wrap from ostoMYsecrets.  I can't stand the feeling of the bag dangling.  And, I hate putting the bag in my pants.  It was a good day.  Didn't think much about the stoma or bag.

Hi Glenn,

Good for you! The pictures of your hike and your family are wonderful. I love walking, but have not been for a good one in a few weeks. I  do wear jeans with a little stretch in them when I walk. I feel very secure with them on as well - no dangling pouch but still have enough room in the back in case my stoma is active. Since a few months before my new life began, my body became very irregular in its bowel habits and remains so. I don't let that stop me though. That's the beauty of the bag. If I am out in the woods and need to, i have plenty of places to empty out!

God bless,

Stella
