Hello all.  I plan to have a reversal and a hernia repair at the same time in the summer. I’d like to know what experiences you all have had with this surgery should u like to share. Colectomy done in March 2019 and now have a parastomal hernia with a prolapse. Waiting until August when Medicare begins.  😊

Hi,

I am a year out on reversal. Everyone is going to have a different journey based on the surgical technique, amount of changes from previous anatomy, diet, digestive physiology, and every other factor that makes us all different. I had challenges post reversal with finding out what foods I can tolerate, interrupted sleep with sudden unexpected urges to go, having to learn how to cope with work, travel, etc. Things are much better now. Normal ? no. Would I do it again ? Yes!! I still have a forever urostomy but am doing better having only one. I still have my days, but life is good!! I recently had incisional hernia repair with one near my urostomy and hernias near my old ileostomy and colostomy sites. It was done with both robotic and manual laparoscopy. It wasn't fun but was worth it after a scare when entrapment sent me to the ER.

Hang in there, I hope all goes well!!

Yes, I imagine the surgeon will have to verify if I am ready to have the take down and hernia problem. Thx for your reply.

Hello Friends-

It's getting close to having a surgery planned for August. I have 3 things to be done. Hopefully the reversal , repair parastomal hernia and  a prolasped stoma. Worried..Spoke with  the surgeon who I trust doing this surgery, and who did the ostomy,  he said it should not be a problem. Said what will matter is if there are lot of scar tissue that may have developed. Said the surgery may be 2-3 hours. I had my colostomy done in 3/19 and decided to wait until August 2020 when my Medicare begins.  Should someone would like to share, I would love to hear from you.I have plenty of time I know.  Will see the surgeon next month and will ask will there will be any trouble to not be able to have  the reversal.  For the ladies. Hernia belt not comfy.- remembered that I had body Shapers in my drawer and boy does this feel good and works like a charm !! TY to all.
