Revising a stoma with a fistula AND a hernia

Hi all!  I'm waiting for a surgery date at Mt Sinai to correct two problems with my installed-in-February temporary ileostomy.

First issue is a fistula that developed beside my stoma, and the second is the canteloupe-sized hernia that I've developed.  Oh my gosh!  My fistula makes applying the flange rather problematic and this hernia is very uncomfortable (and dare I say unsightly).  Having an ileostomy would be a breeze without these two problems!

My surgeon first suggested that the stoma needs  to be relocated to my left side, but has now agreed to try and repair both the fistula and the hernia.

Has anybody else had this happen to them????

Yikes that hernia sounds scary . So sorry you are going through this . I would get a couple more opinions . Best to hear all options available.  I wish you all the best .

Good luck. I've heard of both surgeries taking place and I'm pretty sure both at the same time too.

Just your friendly neighborhood ostomate.
