"YIKES", VO that suggested to me you strongly disagreed with the doctor, so I asked for your reasoning.   I'm always willing to explain my reasoning, seems a web Host should be able to do the same.

Sqeaky, your last comment in your post seemed to be aimed at me? but you commented  about ileostomies where my comment was about colostomies.   really two different subjects involving 2 different parts of the digestion system, small intestine vs large intestine.  they function differently, have different make up and different muscle structures as well as produce output of different pH.   pH effecting skin condition.

I agree, if VO considers learning about the differences between an ileostomy and a colostomy a waste of time, he should not bother.  but this can make trouble when his comments are inaccurate.

we are all different, we are all the same...... both statements are true and false and all too vague and generalistic.

I think bagpus made a very important comment, blockage or just constipation.

Perhaps I'm missing something here. Disagreed with *what* doctor about *what* exactly?

I don't appreciate the tone, but I'd be happy to clarify whatever position you feel I've taken. I'm more than happy to learn.

Sqeaky, your last comment in your post seemed to be aimed at me?

Dog - my comment was aimed at Eric. He said he could probably do a comparison of blockage numbers in ileostomates vs colostomates. I know Eric has a full time job and limited time which he generously dedicates to this website and spending it to provide numbers of colostomate blockages vs Ileostomate blockages didn’t seem like the best use of that time. Besides, what would you have done with the information?  Would it have changed your eating behavior to know how many colostomates get blockages?

Eric is providing this website at his own expense out of kindness, so maybe rather than being critical of him, just thank him for all he does.

dogtalkerer  , you really have to learn to calm down a bit , people on this site are a friendly bunch , allowing for frustration with your condition which effects us all at times , this site is run by Eric and has benefited lots of people with his selfless help , checking out new products and showing people the ways he is using the products himself as well as giving of his time freely ,

If you need stats about colostomys , look for them yourself , Eric has an ostomy and writes about what he knows ,

I myself have and ostomy and have suffered partial blockages , and advice given freely here and on other sites have helped me through them ,

Eric thank you again for the support you have given me and countless others and may you and all others on the site remain safe in this unsafe world,

Tony

I am totally in agreement with Tony and the others. I like to think I juggle a lot of balls work wise and having my ostomy. But I am darned amazed at how and wot Eric has done. As for stats and info well it’s all in the site. Also the forum and site are laid on in a very professional manner which is on par with what companies do with a whole bunch of staff.

Hello there,
I am a vegan. Can you please help!!! Can I have sesame seed and vegan fruit cake? ?I have been given two different answers.

In August 2020 my intestines had twisted 360 degrees that killed a quarter of my intestines. I had an emergency operation and had a colostomy.

In November 2020 I had a blockage on my small intestines. This was caused by my hernia. Another emergency operation and I had zero percent chance of surviving the operation.

Eight weeks ago I had a ileostomy operation at a specialist hospital. I also had one of my hernias mesh.

Thank you in advance for your help

Kind regards
Tracey xx

How has food been for you? Are you prone to blockages or anything else like that, since your surgery?

Sesame seeds are pretty small, and I honestly don't see any issues with them. However, fruit cake could have harder pieces that will need to be thoroughly chewed and in small quantities if you haven't had that before.

If you can get in touch with a stoma nurse, or someone who knows your history, they may be able to give a more definitive answer. I would prefer you err on the side of caution and take it slowly if you do want to indulge ?

I screwed up right after I got home from my operation.

I bought microwaveable dinners. One was scrambled eggs with potatoes. The potatoes had a little bit of peel left on the edges. Back to the emergency ward. Totally blocked. Several days later out it came. The wad of undigested potato peels.

One year later I have been eating everything I used to eat. Some of those things used to give me some troubles from mild to bad. But now I have not run into anything that gives me pains. The doctor went all through my plumbing and repaired any problem parts. So I probably have no strictures now that things have healed.

Why?

Thankyou for getting back to me.

So far so good no blockages, I have been taking it slowly introducing food back into my diet. I am hoping to be able to have some vegan fruit cake in December.

Your Youtube channel it absolutely brilliant and I have subcribed. I am going to have a look around your website.

I have not shown my ileostomy husband or anyone that doesn't need to see it. I'm still getting used it myself. I have problems with pancaking and skin irrtation, as I have sensitive skin.

Keep up the good work!!!

Tracey xx

Glad to hear you're not having any issues, Tracey. I think your experience will continue to get better/easier with time, and you're doing the right thing by taking things slowly.

Here's to vegan fruit cake in December! ?

Love your website. It has been very helpful to be. Had my colon rupture Dec 19 so I have a ileostomy . It’s been very hard to get a bag to fit good around my stoma whiteout leakage. Still trying different bags and techniques. Just added very soft well cooked green beans today so far no problem. My stool tends to be thick. What do you suggest to thin it

Hi Mary,

I hope that you're feeling well after your surgery. That must have been a scary situation.

For thicker output, I do have an article that might give you some ideas on how to better manage it: https://www.veganostomy.ca/dealing-thick-ostomy-output/

You'll likely notice a change in your output over the next months and years as your body adapts. The timing should be more predictable, and the consistency should be... more consistent :)

Best to you!
