We recently asked Eric to test a silicone stoma paste made by Trio. I called him to order a sample of it and when they found out that I was using a coloplast mio pouching system I was told that the silicone paste will not work with any of that series of appliances. The appliances have petroleum products in their manufacturer and the Silicon does not work with petroleum. Just thought you should have

Severe rheumatoid arthritis, spondoloarthropy, polymyalgia rhumatica, type 1 diabetic, IBS and finally, emergency diverticulitis surgery, colon removed Stella born Jan. 27, 2017. 6 bouts of c-diff, failed fecal transplant. Complete colonectomy and ileostomy July 30, 2018. ENOUGH!!

Wow that is great information. I am sure some people are  having trouble and going crazy trying to figure out why . Who would have thought

Thanks Barb👍🏼

Glad it's working for you.  What they said was that petroleum products in the Mio series degrades more rapidly with the silicone paste.  Let me know how it works

it seems to be working well John , I change my base plate every 3 days or if it starts  itching Barbara so I dont think it will degrade much in that time  , I will change it tomorrow and take more photos and hopefully no output will be underneath .

well I changed my base plate yesterday and the gel had lifted a little so Barbara you were right about the coloplast bast plates not being the best match for the gel , I might try it with a hollister base plate in a few days and see does it last longer with that .

I'm looking forward to your update on this.

I don't recall which appliance I had been using when I tried the silicone gel, but it was more than likely to have been either Coloplast Sensura Click or the Hollister New Image 2pc.

If it was the Coloplast SenSura it probably didn't work well. Trio says there are petroleum products in that brand that react with the silicone

Tony, I also see that your using 2 different types of wafers.  One from Mio, and then the "new-last" one looks like a Hollister.

hey Marcie , just doing a bit of a test seeing whether the trio gel adheres better to the coloplast baseplate or the hollister , all the details are in the thread .

Hi Tony, Hands up here I don,t have experience of gel or paste. you didn,t appear to have any leakage but has it swollen up and choked the stoma.

Hey John , I think the thing about the gel is that it does not seem to swell like the seals/rings , it did seem to lift the last time a little but this time it seems to have stayed put , it will be interesting how it performs with the hollister base plate ,

i think im tempting faith at the moment because im doing too much experimentation , and I know that a leak is only around the corner , I have not had a leak since last January but last night I came close ,

I saw some fancy sausages in the local Lidl and cooked them last night ,BAD IDEA , I had really bad gas and woke at 5am with my bag at bursting point , i mean if i had a drumstick i could have played a tune , anyway I vented the bag with difficulty , the smell woke the wife and all of a sudden all the window had to be opened to get rid of the smell , anyway im banned from having sausages for the foreseeable future ,

will report back in a few days and see how the trio gel fares with the hollister baseplate

Ah Tony I am sorry I had to laugh at you wakening the wife. One of those swollen bags that yer afraid to move with. The old striking a match trick works well

Hey Tony

I am definitely no pro at this but do you have to use the gel or a ring from some reason ? It looks like your stoma sticks out good you know not real short mine is kinda short . I tried using the Hollister paste and also the Eakin Cohesive seals and had no luck at all . Have you tried maybe a convex base with no ring or gel ? After I used just the base and the bag (2 piece) Hollister I haven't had any problems . Knock on wood . Like I said I don't know a whole lot about all this . Just a thought .

Hey Robert at the moment I am just trying out the gel to see if it works ,at the start I was on a one piece coloplase and my skin was getting really sore , I was lucky that the first health care professional to come check up on me was the coloplast rep , she was really great , not pushing her products but giving me really good tip and help , she started me off on a two piece coloplast and a coloplast seal/ring and I have not had any leaks since then ,

I now still use the coloplast two piece with an eakin seal and its working well for me ,

I really am lucky because the only real problem that I have is a small parastomal hernia and if I can keep that under control I will be happy , I don't really want to chance more surgery unless its really urgent
