Hey folks,

One of the changes I'll be implementing during the site refresh (in the next week or so) is to disable the randomly generated avatars on the forums.

While I really do love the cute characters and uniqueness of the random avatars, they are generated by a third-party (Gravatar) and this runs opposite to the privacy-first approach I'll be taking with the site moving forward.

If you've already uploaded a profile picture, then there's nothing you need to do on your end.

If you are using one of the generated avatars (many of you are!) then you have three options:

  1. Do nothing, and at some point it will default to a generic avatar (which everyone else who doesn't update their avatar will have).
  2. Upload your own personal avatar by following these instructions.
  3. Saving your currently assigned avatar and upload that, so you can keep it forever.

To do the third option, simply go into your forum profile and either right click or long press the avatar (if you are on a phone) and you should have the option to save that image (see the screenshot below). Then follow these instructions to upload them to your profile again.

All uploaded avatars will live on the VeganOstomy server without any third-party being linked to them 😁

Hey Eric... I'm fine with whatever your doing! I have been having a few issues with replying to a few forums. I have tried contacting you directly but even that failed. I'm no genius on these things and do use my phone for being here as I no longer use my computer. When this "glitch" happens all I can do is leave the site as I can not even move from my reply.

Sometimes when I've completed a reply I am unable to scroll up to hit add reply to the forum I'm responding too.  It seems to happen when I've responded to 2 or more forums , even short replies.  I'm not sure if its a glitch on my end or on yours that this is happening. So please forgive for asking you here. Lol!

Also I've been considering adding my photo up as my avatar. Is there an easy way to do that from my phone?

Thank you for making privacy a point on here. We have such a great group of ostomates here & its been a good experience all around. I know I sure appreciate it ! I don't do facebook  & I have noticed that instagram is over loaded with adds too!!  Thanks again & Have Great day!!

Linda

You should be able to simply upload the photo if it's already on your phone, but it should be resized first (it may error out if you send it "as-is"). Resizing depends on the phone and software you have. My Samsung phone has this option in the gallery.

This is concerning as I haven't had this happen myself. It may spontaneously clear up once the website has transitioned, but it could be something else (i.e. the anti-spam service being too aggressive).

If you can't reach me by private message, please email me instead, so I can try to troubleshoot. It's info@veganostomy.ca

I'll likely split this thread if other members are having a similar problem.

I did it! Do you like the “new” me? It’s a painting I did for my son’s girlfriend.

@veganostomy Thanks! No, I’m just a dabbler. I fuss so much over a painting that I think a “real” artist would just shake their head. This was a Christmas gift for my son’s girlfriend, and she loved it. So I scored some points there!

Laurie,

You are so talented!!  That picture is great. I wish I was artistic, but haven’t a smidgen of artistic ability.

@veganostomy  ...Thank you so much Eric!! As always your so on the  ball with everything! This must be a full time job for you by now! Lol!

It seems the problem is my phone can be a tad temperamental. It doesn't like to be used as a typewriter for long periods of time. Between my need to edit, lol & sudden naps from anemia & my old inflamed eyeballs it can & does take me a long time to reply to a forum.   So if I'm too long my phone seems to be a bit of a rebellion. I'm learning to pace its use this way... well, sometimes...lol!
