Hey gang!

I've updated the forum software to v1.5.2 and there are a lot of new features I have to tell you about!

View Unread Posts

Previously, the forum had a rather crude implementation of keeping track of which topics you've read. With this new update, the posts/topics you read will be stored in your account so you can use multiple devices and it will know where you left off.

You'll see "Unread posts" buttons throughout the forum layout and on the recent post screen, as well as a "mark all read" button to tell the software that you're all caught up.

This will make your forum experience a lot better since you can quickly see what you've missed :)

Please note that you must be logged in for it to know which articles you've specifically viewed.

Tags

Tags are a brand new feature that should help to enhance the discoverability of topics and will enable you to find relevant related topics.

When you start a new thread, you'll see a "Topic Tags" option on the bottom of the text window. You'll be able to add "tags" for each topic.

As an example, if you start a new topic about having leaks and you're using Coloplast ostomy supplies, you may add the tags: "Coloplast" and "leaks".

Currently, you're able to add up to five tags, but if you do add them, make sure they are specific and relevant to your topic or it won't work as intended.

The tags feature will also allow related topics to show up at the bottom of the topic thread, so you may further read into the topic.

This is still very new and I may need to tweak some of the settings, but it's there if you'd like to use it.

And more

There were dozens of other fixes, improvement, and optimization done to the forums.

If you find any problems, please post them in the Bug Reports section.

Enjoy!

Just your friendly neighborhood ostomate.

Hi Eric , just a quick question on adding tags, is it best for the tags to be used by the member doing the first post on a topic, or can they be added along the thread by other member replying.

Hi Eric , just a quick question on adding tags, is it best for the tags to be used by the member doing the first post on a topic, or can they be added along the thread by other member replying.

Tags can only be added to the first post, although I do realize that the topics discussed can change throughout the thread. If someone forgets to add it to their new topic, they can edit that first post and add them later. I've been going through various posts and adding tags as I go along so that the tag feature and related posts become more useful.

You can actually see a list of current tags here:  https://www.veganostomy.ca/community/tags/

Once we have enough posts that are tagged, I will likely include a tags widget or button to easily access that page.
