question for you Eric how do you cope as a vegan ? The only thing I notice I eat a lot of fruits and vegetables and apart of some smaller amounts of meat ive began cooking vegetables with eggs which seems to leave me more satisfied. But I’ll quickly get tired of eggs soon at this rate. I’d like to incorporate more vegetarian meals but feel satisfied after. Any suggestions? Proteins help to make you feel full, longer. When you remove meat from the diet, you have to replace it with another protein. My meals will generally include at least once source of protein: tofu, legumes, nuts/seeds, etc. We use a wide variety of beans and legumes to add more variety: lentiles, chickpeas, white and red kidney beans, fava beans, romano beans, black beans, etc.... loads of options, and they all taste different. From time to time, we will add some faux meat to our meals (i.e. burgers, veggie ground, mock chicken nuggets, and so on), but we don't rely on those as they can be expensive. I'd be happy to discuss this further in a separate thread (I can split this one up, so we don't have to start a new one). 👌 Just your friendly neighborhood ostomate. @veganostomy yes please! Now I wish I would of planted beans and other protein in my garden! Im on thé tail end of a fishing trip and been eating out way too much. Couldn’t even keep the fish as we had to catch and release! 😂 @yvan-charbonneau No problem :) Here's a new thread on the topic. Along with adding protein to your meals, more fibre can help to feel more full... however, for someone with an ostomy, this can mean you'll be emptying your bag more often. You may be able to find a balance between convenience and satisfaction when it comes to meals. How many meals and snacks do you generally eat in a 24h period? Just your friendly neighborhood ostomate. @veganostomy usually 3 meals but snacking was depending on hunger these past 5 days been all over the map with the kid fishing I was eating a lot of garden stuff for snacking like zucchini brocoli leaf Portulaca a weed in my garden that’s edible and quite tasty and things like that. Cucumbers are In season as well as onions I chop em up and make salads with em even as snacks maybe you to 3-5 snacks a day whats your take on potatoes? m Proteins help to make you feel full, longer. Nor many fresh leafy veg. It is encouraging to see that people are eating these items without issues. My biggest concern is getting a blockage, I know chew, chew, chew. UGH Found out yesterday that bean sprouts are very stringy, had to pass on the egg foo yong and ended up peeling the eggplant in the other dish we ordered. Took much of the fun out of getting take away. cygo I was eating a lot of garden stuff for snacking like zucchini brocoli leaf Portulaca a weed in my garden that’s edible and quite tasty and things like that. Peeled if necessary, since the skins will not break down in our stomach, but otherwise, they are cheap, nutritious, and filling. Regarding zucchini, broccoli, cucumbers, and portulaca, while nutritious, they won't be very filling. I'd prefer to add those to a meal, rather than making them the meal.
