Seems like if I have a leak with my urostomy, 2-3 more will occur in short order. What's your experience? This may, in fact, be more common than we think. It's important to try and pinpoint where the leak is coming from or how the leak started. Because there are so many variables at play, it's really important to identify what's going on especially if you're getting them in clusters. Some people experience more leaks during the changes of season, while others might experience more during a diet change. And sometimes there could even be a problem with a certain batch of products, which may end up appearing like leaks are happening often but it's isolated to one particular box of products. Just your friendly neighborhood ostomate. I don’t know why, but I sometimes have a stretch where I have a leak several days in a row. I feel like I apply things the same every time, but sometimes they stick with no problem and other times I have a leak within 24 hours. It is very annoying and can cause a lot of stress and discouragement. Hang in there!! -Liza I had these kind of leaks too. I checked two things. Was I cleaning the area enough with the Adhesive Remover? Was I getting it all off or just thought I was? I found I was not by doing a big cleaning session & by the time I was done, I had used enough wipes that my skin felt *Squeaky clean to be exact. lol! In Hospital the nurse used 2 or 3 wipes at most & way too gently. Once I felt the difference I was certain that was part of the issue to my leaks. Since... I clean as Eric suggested to wash the area with water & if needed a non residue soap, rinsing very well & a good drying. I no longer get rashes anywhere but around the stoma area & if I get one it's because I ignored signs a of a due change. The second issue I had was with the rings. I had a hate relationship with the stickiness & the amount of time it took from doing other things just to clean the area every time. I did a trial period without it. Each change I examined the wafer & skin area affected & made corrections based on what I saw. It turned out one of my issues without the ring were because I was not drying my stoma before putting it in the hole and I discovered I needed to spend more time securing the skin area around my stoma. Using the suggested blowdryer made that difference too. I warmed my skin & the wafer to make it stickier. I also lay down with a warm hot water bottle placed over a washcloth over my stoma to further heat & adhere it to my skin. Removing the wafer often looks like strands of elastic between it & my skin. When my skin dies tear it always around the edges where I use the C -Shaped tapes for extra security. I faithfully use the Barrier Spray /Wipes too. Keep in mind that leaks can occur based on activity change as well. Things like vacuuming, yard work, bending to get things out of the washer or dryer. Activities like this... for me, always warrant a change sooner then later. Linda
