Has anyone discovered a good gentle way to get rid of hair around stoma?  The sticky ring seems to clog razors and I fear scrubbing the sticky ness away as it would require massive scrubbing that might irritate skin...

Do you have adhesive remover spray or adhesive remover wipes by chance? That should get the residuefrom the ring off pretty easily.

Hey Rick . Like Eric mentioned do you use the remover wipes ? I do they work good for me at getting ride of the residue . While in the shower I use the remover wipes then I lather up with the same soap they give you to use before surgery  and I use that to shave with . Then wash up everything else . Then wash one more time with the surgery soap just to get rid of any regular soap residue there might be . Works good for me haven't had any barrier coming lose problems or irritation problems yet . Been doing it this way for about 4 years . Good luck to ya !

Hey Ladies & Gentlemen... has anyone looked into permanent hair removal through a professional.   My hubby was the hairiest man I had every met & quite  possibly related to Bigfoot, lol!  During the short time he was with me & my ostomy, I saw  him cringe every time I needed to change my pouch. On finally asking what the face was about, he admitted he dreaded the hair pulling issues. I had to laugh because it really was not much of an issue for me, but I certainly understood the fear behind the cringe as being a form of possible torture to him!! lol.  I do know if it was me and I could afford it, even in small areas at a time, I would have it done. I think it would be worth the fasting & cost for a clear area beneath the wafer.   It's bad enough I loose small areas of 2 layers of skin removing the wafer, but hundreds of man hair every time... ha!, no thanks! Lol!

Maybe just place a phone call & look into it. If you have an active stoma, maybe leaving the pouch 1/2 on & doing one side at a time may work. Just a suggestion.

There laser/light hair removal treatments that can offer long-term (mostly permanent ) results , however they require quite a few ongoing treatments and would be really inconvenient to do while you have a stoma. There's also a risk of it causing irritation after each treatment.

You can get home versions of these prproduc , which may be more convenient and aren't that expensive by comparison. I'd be willing to try this if I ever get my hands on a system.

If someone was planning this well ahead of a scheduled surgery then it would be a wonderful option!

@veganostomy... That would take cooperation on  the surgeons behalf as well! If a toe nail can be stopped by growing back in one treatment one may think hair could be stopped as well! lol!

That would be nice, but these treatments do take time and results aren't guaranteed for everyone. You also need a particular skin color and hair color for it to work well.

I use an electric hair clipper. Andis brand name. The way the blades are set up I can get in real close to the stoma and draw away. Have to be gentle. If you press too hard it will irritate the skin. But there isn't a real need to apply much pressure. It isn't as close a shave as a real razor device. But it is adequate, quick and easy. I do it every change or second change. Going about 3 to 4 days a change now. Getting better, so maybe get 5 soon?

Same thing I use to cut my head and facial hair. But without the plastic length guide attached. I angle it so the blade is 90 degrees to the skin. The back of the blade is smooth and does not move, so that side is to the stoma. It won't hurt it. Then just press lightly and draw it away.

Why?
