Hey folks,

I've had a few of you contact me about issues with viewing the website, particularly forum posts.

I'm not able to replicate the problem on my end, so please send me as many details as you can (email me if you aren't able to post here; hopefully, you can read this post!).

I need to know:

  • Is it only the forum or other parts of the website that you are having trouble viewing?
  • What device, operating system, and web browser are you using?
  • Does the problem happen when you are logged in (i.e. to the forum) or any time?

I'll be updating more of the forum software today, but since I can actually see the problem, on my end, I won't be able to test if anything I do fixes it.

Thank you for your help and sorry for the inconvenience!

Hi Eric,
I guess the problem is that we are going to a basic page with the print all on the left side and no graphics. I have Windows 10 and don't have issues with other sites. This has happened several times, but I figured you might have been updating the web page at the time. The interesting thing is that I can still reply in the forum.

A p.s. since I can't edit my post. It happens whether I am logged in or not.

That's what worries me. Usually, problems like this are from Apple devices, but rarely ever have I seen this with Windows.

I've just updated all the backend plugins, and cleared out all the cache on my end, but please continue to report it if it's still an issue.

Hi Eric,

So far I have no trouble, but seems to me it is the same as I had with private messages not too long ago.

I did alert you at that time and it is working now. Just trying to help.

Dan

Since eric has cleared the Wordpress cashe, if anyone still has trouble, I suggest clearing your own browser's cache. Sometimes that can speed up a resolution that might otherwise take a little time to come down the pike.

Yes, this may help, although it shouldn't be necessary. If you are using a desktop browser, you can press CTRL+F5 twice to refresh everything.

That said, I just enabled a feature that might help things, although it will require more testing to make sure it doesn't break anything else. As a side-effect, the site should load faster and use fewer resources.

Eric, what if you were to login from a different computer as a guest or registered, ex: at the library? Probably a dumb suggestion but I was wondering if it would help you see what other see?

Linda, I thought you said you were not tech savvy. That's a great suggestion.

Thanks Tony, but it is really only great if it actually works. LOl! A fluke...really.

That is a good suggestion and I've already been using "off-site" systems to see if I can spot any issues and they all seem to be OK. It's quite puzzling as there's usually an error or something that can point to some clues.

Have any of you had any trouble since after this thread was created?

Hi Folks, I tried different devices away from home with no joy. I usually reply to posts while out during the day on my iPhone. No other sites where affected. I wonder if me being in the UK has something to do with it. Many thanks for the help Eric

And...right back to running smoothly here. Thanks so much Eric. I hope you did not loose any sleep over this thing. Good Job. This happened once before, but this time, I contacted you, also, this  time, I was unable to contact you for the first day.

Tony, you taught my son something with the ctrl and f5 thingy. He says thanks!

UPDATE (May 27, 2019): The issue wasn't truly solved and I've been in contact with this website's host to see what can be done. It's actually a bizarre problem that I can't fix on my end using the usual steps.

Will update again once the reason for this problem has been identified and fixed.

Update (May 28, 2019): The issue is now really fixed!

The technical details:

This site uses a CDN (Content Delivery Network), which helps to speed up loading by serving various files and images from servers across the world instead of just one location. This means that a user in the UK will have similar speeds to someone in Canada.

For some reason, various requests to access the site was being blocked by my web host's firewall, which means that some of you weren't actually getting the files form the CDN, which resulted in a broken site with poor formatting and missing images.

My host unblocked these false flags and assured that it should not happen again.

Thank you for everyone who posted this issue. If it does happen again, please let me know!

@mariedianels To help troubleshoot, please let me know what device you're using, the browser, and if possible, provide a screenshot of what you see.

I haven't noticed any issues myself, but there have been some new updates to the backend software so it's entirely possible that some people may be experiencing problems.

@mariedianels Hi Marie, are you referring to this website (www.veganostomy.ca) or another one? I'm not understanding some of the comments in your reply.
