Have a Urostomy and enjoy showing without my 1 piece when I change it. Has anyone with a 2 piece taken the bag off at every shower and replaced when getting out ? It would keep bag dry and not have it in the way during shower. Don't know what the downside would be, but am not familiar with 2 piece systems. Thanks ;-)

I have a colostomy and have done this once in awhile. I use a Hollister 2-piece. Usually my pouch and flange work together for around 3 days, but if the flange has looked like it was holding up well and the pouch was looking not so good I have removed the pouch, showered with the flange on and put a new pouch on when I was done. Have had no problems with it.

I ALWAYS take my bag off and leave the flange on when I shower.  I do take a couple of minutes to hit it with a hair dryer afterwards because my skin is pretty sensitive.  No problems at all!  My favorite thing of all?  Showering without even the flange.  I call them my "nakey showers".

@alida Nakey showers rule!  I love showers on bag change days.  Like heaven.

I haven't but probably will now.  I love showering my stoma (on bag change days with nothing on).  Just makes everything feel so much better.

Just got out of shower without bag and wafer only. Just patted wafer dry and put bag back on. Not as cool as totally "free" but I would recommend.

Love change day shower. But also just shower with everything attached, but at end of the day. The Sensura Mio bag seems to dry very quick. I haven't gone for a real long hot shower with all attached. Will try it just before change time and see how things keep stuck.

Why?

I love my 2 piece system, and yes, I frequently shower with just the skin barrier on and the bag off,. I'll rinse the bag out in the shower, pat it dry while drying myself and snap it back on!

Showering was one of my many adjustments post surgery.  It took almost a year of trial error.  Mainly I was trying to regain the mental relaxation and comfort of the "old days".  I was a long showerer. Guys may not relate to this lol I loved bath products, scrubbers, hair treatments etc.  Needless to say those days are gone.  It was a combination of acceptance and trial and error.  My final solution is naked showers!  If I splurge and use a skin treatment like sugar scrub or oils, I limit them to my arms, legs and feet and finish off with a gentle basic soap with no residue on my chest and abdomen. After I dry off, I attach a Coloplast minicap so that I can relax while using lotion etc and not having to worry about leaking for a while.  No where near the "old days" but these adjustments help me to still feel treated.

I edited original post.  It sounded like I showered with one piece pouches on.  I don't.  I always have naked showers.  I use the one-piece pouches because it is easier for me to change them more often.

I still dare not shower without bag. I'm using coloplast 1 piece. May be one day I'll try, but I cannot see it soon.

I keep a couple of tissues on the corner ledge of the bathtub, outside the shower curtain, just in case my stoma decides to get active when I am in the shower (I keep an eye on things and am able to grab them quickly). I have never been a long-shower person, which helps. I clean the stoma off as well as I can before getting in the shower, also.

@llholiday Showering without the bag and skin barrier is a happy place for me. If I have output, I just let it go down the drain and keep enjoying the nice long shower. :-)

At first, I tried to keep all the restrictions in my mind and was very scared to deal with my urostomy. However, this fear slowly dies with time. Now I can move it away when I need it, and I can shower without this

@jackyhen I'm glad you are getting used to it! Time does wonders for fear and are ability to move forward.
