@dlkfiretruck I will be doing a demonstration on tablet weaving for my guild in May. I haven’t used this technique for about 20 years, so I’m relearning it and making lots of mistakes. I’ll include a YouTube video so you can see what tablet weaving is. If you want to learn to weave, I strongly recommend that you join a guild - there’s probably one near you. Often guilds will teach you how to weave and lend you a small loom to play with. Once you have some experience, you can decide what kind of loom you want, and there are so many - from small table looms to huge floor looms. It’s a personal decision based on what you want to weave, and how complicated you want your weaving to be. Here’s the video on tablet weaving:

I don’t understand the video, but the end result is really cool!!  I’d love to see things you have made if you want to post a picture. 😊

@tigerlily ... Wow! I've never seen that type of weaving using the cards like that. I thought for sure the belt was going to be a guitar strap. Thank you for the video though. Using the cards I think would mess me up royally! Lol!

My project is for a Barbie/ Ken style doll.  Last year before I had a huge health issue that hospitalized me for 3 months & my eyes made reading difficult, I had been reading in the Bible in Exodus 28, NIV,  there is a description of clothing made. On reading through the book of Exodus in the Old Testament, these articles of clothing were referred to as the "Holy Garments."  I was somewhat taken back by the description and measurements of the Garments & as I was reading, I found myself writing the design of it down & really wanting to recreate it,  only putting it on a Ken style doll. There were stones, jewels & golden threads & bells on the hems all that seemed to be missing were the whistles, all were included in the making of this Garment, and all serving a purpose to be on it as well, each pieces represents something important. But what got me was the WEAVING part for a piece of the Garment.  The descriptions & colours of the threads/wools  used & in recreating it. I've been having trouble finding a good used Ken doll in our local thrift store. I'm not in a hurry to make this, but that desire to do it still oddly remains.

I love to do beadwork & my collection has a fair amount of these stones in the it.  Jewels only in modern day glass/agates & some in precious gems & crystals that I already have or can be  aquired, that I can stitch onto these layered  Garments.

In the WEAVED part of the Garment, the description of the threads or wools used are the last of my items to gather & I will probably just use DMC cross stitch/embroidery threads to make it.  The impression and meaning of each pieces of the Garments impressed me just as much as the measurements Noah's Ark, lol... I'm not about to recreate the Ark, but  remaking  mini size pieces of this clothing & handstitching is, is just something I guess I decided I wanted to make.

All that said, I only need a small size loom as I have no other purpose for a bigger one at this time. Though I did weaving as a teen, both in fibers & beads, I think I can get away with my Son wanting to make the loom, if not Plan B will go in effect! As an ostimate, I've learned to most always have a Plan B. Is this true for everyone here?

So, Laurie, as said above, I too would love to see pics of what you have made in weaving projects.

@TonyH ... before my Dad died (cancer) a little over 5 yrs ago, he gave me his big camera with a telescoping lens, but the mechanism needs repair or whatever to make it run smoothly. & focus where I need it to focus.

It's interesting how all the things we learn in life have had a purpose later on in life as well.

Our weather is deceiving out there. It's 6°c & damp but the sun is trying to dry it up from two nights & days of sporadic & welcome rain. I'm about to go walk Missy, though the way I feel today it may be her taking me for a walk. Lol!! Good day everyone!

13C and rainy here today. Luckily we missed the freezing rain yesterday, but I bet Eric got it. My daffodils are up but not open yet. I put the leftover yarn from my project out for the birds; they’re collecting building materials now.

Should anyone get the wrong idea about my skill level as a weaver, let me set you straight. I dabble at best, and I make lots of mistakes. If my project turns out to be photo worthy, I will post the results. So far, it’s looking rather pitiful.🫣 I will have to work at it to demonstrate this for my guild! The reason I am doing it is because I am on the program committee, and when we were brainstorming ideas, I said “What about tablet weaving?” and the chair said, “Good idea, Laurie. Can you do that for us?” Me and my big mouth.😂

@tigerlily It always amazes me at the amount of effort that some things take to get to a final result. And you value those things far more than something made in a factory with almost no human interaction!

We didn't get ice, but lots of rain. It's been raining and miserable-looking for days now! I think the sun is expected to show up in the next 48h... I hope. LOL

not too bad here today , wild and windy @12C , but feels colder , having a problem with my stoma , I have a small parastomal hernia , and at the moment its putting a little pressure on the stoma resulting in the stoma ballooning and expanding , was with my stoma nurse yesterday and she just recommended getting a larger base plate (from 25mm to 32mm) and get a stronger support belt , hope it helps , can't complain too much as ive had very few problems over the last 11 years , anyway that's my moaning done for today.

@veganostomy Freezing rain here right now. With thunderstorms. Oy! We had spring for a few minutes last week, and now back to our regular program. I’ll believe tomorrow’s forecast of 18C when I see it.

Hey Tony, moaning is allowed on this site! Let us know how the larger base plate and stronger support belt work out for you.🤞

Snowing and blowing - that’s the street in front of the house. The plow came by this morning, don’t know when it will come back as we are on a small street so not a priority. The storm should be done by morning.

It’s not very cold, just below freezing, and it is pretty outside.

Yeah, we had a "slush storm" that turned into intense thunderstorms last night. Should be sunny and warm later. We'll see 😂

she just recommended getting a larger base plate

Because I wear a 1pc now, the baseplate is quite large, but I find that it offers much more support because there's more holding onto your skin.

I hope the larger baseplate works better for you!

well I saw the hospital stoma nurse and she told me I need more support , my belt was worn out and she said to get one without the opening and use a stoma guard with it , also remeasured the stoma and its now 32mm(up from 25mm) and still bulging a bit,

also had the hollister stoma nurse call out to me at home , for a second opinion , really lucky to have that option as well as she is a brilliant nurse and a bit more experienced that the hospital nurse   and she agreed  the firmer belt should help ,

so orders gone in for bigger baseplates  and new belts , will update if it helps .

I might give the one piece another try Eric , it might help .

Well, we were on a "thunderstorm watch" in our area. I guess we sent them east instead! Sorry guys! I'm glad you are all well & safe. We had plenty of heavy rains for the last 48 hours and lots more in the past week, but rather sporadically. I won't complain as we need the rain,  I'd really like to avoid water restrictions this year.  We too have had a lot of very windy days & nights. I've been tieing up my wind chimes as too much wind, it just becomes noisey. Missy does not like to walk in the rain. She just soaks it up like a sponge anyways, so no complaining here.

TonyH... great videos! Your dog is beautiful!  Be sure & let us know how that bigger plate works for you. Don't think of it as complaining, your simply sharing the ideas for others who may need the encouragement or an option to try something different.  I think that's what this site is about.

Laurie... nice shot of the snow! I love how it makes things quieter outdoors. Wow, good for you doing this weaving project!! I think it's pretty awesome what you are doing.

hey Linda , the base plate is the same but the opening for the stoma had gone from 25mm to 32mm and I'm using a much stronger support belt with no hole for the bag and everything seems to be settling down again , fingers crossed , just have to make sure i am always wearing support from now on and not try and do so much heavy work around the home ,

no more chainsaw for the foreseeable future , just allowed to do all the cooking and grocery shopping , which i love anyway so win win ,

Its just harder not to be able to do stuff you were able to not too long ago but i suppose age catches up with us all ,

any way nice day here today , had a walk by the sea , was quite windy but enjoyed it , then spent most of the afternoon sitting in the sunshine in our sheltered garden/yard , today was a good day .

It has been sunny here the past few days, above freezing in the afternoons and so much of the snow has melted. Beautiful weather, and I have seen some robins and heard them sing. I have been working on some patchwork throw-size quilts, tried to attach a photo but the file is too large. Liza, I enjoy working with the walking foot I bought for the sewing machine. It is simple to attach and use.
