@tony-h What a gorgeous puppy, Tony! She looks so content in her beautiful surroundings.

I did know about George Harrison’s fondness for the uke; didn’t know that he gave them away. What a priceless gift that would have been! The video you posted looks like the Travelling Wilburys - plus several, including Dhani Harrison, who has his own line of ukuleles now. A chip off the old block. Prince’s solo is just like him - a perfect combination of flawless and flamboyant.🎸

And have you heard Prince's solo on My Guitar ?

The story behind that specific solo is pretty interesting! https://www.guitarplayer.com/players/tom-petty-and-others-tell-the-story-behind-princes-while-my-guitar-gently-weeps-solo

It's been really dreary these past several days, and pretty chilly. But the longer days are really nice! We still won't see double-digit temps for at least two more weeks.

@veganostomy This is a hilarious story! I watched the video again, and yeah, I don’t see the guitar coming back down. Is it possible that someone above the stage caught it? Does that even make sense? Boy, I have to say, we have had some incredible musicians, haven’t we? And we have access to so much music! Great time to be alive. We are lucky.

What album would any of you take to a desert island? I know you’ve all played this game, probably when you were teenagers, but I’m curious. For me, it would probably be the Beatles Abbey Road. Although an album from an old local band (that none of you would know) called the Perth County Conspiracy would be a close second. What would you all choose?

Thats a horrible question Laurie , but it would have to be The Beatles White Album with Tom Waits Closing Time a close second ,but we have so much music now ,growing up ,every record you bought was a big decision, now I have an audio player ,it's like a fancy ipod that has 500 albums in lossless audio on it , from opera to bluegrass , jazz ,rock and Country, I just love music , could do without a lot but books and music help me through the hard times.

For anyone interested in a good music player ,

That would be difficult for me to say, since I like so many genres! Counterparts by Rush is one that I could probably listen to indefinitely. I'm a drummer, so I have a sweet spot for songs that are fun to play.

Very nice! FiiO devices are really nice! I was eyeing their players not long ago!

I've been trying to move away from using my phone for tasks that are better handled by other devices, so I've got an inexpensive MP3 player loaded up with all the music I've ripped from my CD collection and purchased digitally.

I wish they were lossless, but the premium (in price and space) was hard for me to justify. And the devices I'd play music through wouldn't benefit from having lossless audio 🤣

@veganostomy Eric, Rush played my high school, in the early 1970s, before they made it big. I don’t remember if Neil Peart was in the band yet (you’d have been a fan of his if you’re a drummer) but it’s hard to forget Geddy Lee. Hard to imagine now that they actually played high schools.

Tony, I have only heard some of the Esher demos; I often listen to the Beatles channel on Sirius satellite. Peter Asher has a regular program there, and he always has interesting stories as well. When we moved last fall, we got rid of all our vinyl records 😭. That was hard, even though I can listen to anything I want at any time, the old vinyl records have such an emotional tug. I am learning to disconnect myself from “stuff” and I’m not very good at it. I keep reading about Swedish death cleaning, and I look around my house and think, “As if”.

That's awesome! I listened to the audiobook by Geddy Lee about his story, and the band had such a coloured history, especially in those early days! I saw them twice: once at "Sars Stock" and then in concert back in 2004. Peart was a huge inspiration for me back in the 90s when I started drumming.

Funny enough, I just finished listening to the audiobook "The Gentle Art of Swedish Death Cleaning" by Margareta Magnusson ( https://www.margaretamagnusson.com/books/swedish-death-cleaning). It's an interesting perspective, for sure, and it should give everyone something to think about. I just learned that she passed this past week, at 91!

@tigerlily ... I'm a big believer in "keep learning" something, and trying until you find your niche or more! When I nursed we told our patients, use it or loose it. This is why after surgery they get you up and walking ASAP. Becoming sedentary is not one of my goals. I have a need from my teens to keep my hands moving even in a slow manner. Yes, there are people who can not move & often for unobvious reasons, but to excercise "muscle memory" is important.

Please, bear with me... The peripheral nueropathy from my knees down and in my fingers has been wicked.  I desperately need a mobility scooter, but not for lack of feeling in my lower legs, I'll keep walking my now 2 little dogs 2 or 3 times a day  as long as I possibly can.  It's for those days where I'm so desperatly weak from severe anemia that going to get Miss. G. at school is difficult,  but coming home is another story,  I just don't need to faint on the street or in front of a lot of small children. I often need to lay down immediately & thank Heaven G is so cooperative.  A recent iron infusion took 5 weeks to show its nose in the energy department but it finally seems to be taking affect.  Last time the results had me mostly in  bed for about 5 months. My iron went from 2 to 850!! My liver was not happy & dumped the excess iron into my joints. The kids had to put G in day care & bring me all my meals. This new brand this round was a half dose and a much better result so far. More blood work soon!. But still, I try to learn something new often.  I have a bag of supplies in my closet to start basket weaving after I finish the 3rd keyhole crocheted scarf for G and 2 of her little friends. You can crochet laying down. My hands have been extra painful & I just found out its bcuz there is no cartilage left in my hand and finger joints. I can work with this, it just means I choose carefully what I do in my day and learn to ask for help & know my limit of weight to lift. But I'm still determined to learn and keep learning something new when I accomplish something or when I figure it was worth the try and move on to something else. Hand & finger excercises are good & do help. Now, I'm telling you all  this bcuz I wish someone had told me.  Physio here is daylight robbery!!! I'm on gov't pension for disability & oas. For my legs, I invested about $100. in what I call  my bionic boots. I'd like to post a video but fail.  You can see them on amazon. Look for a pair of velcro closure boots that are like a blood pressure cuff. They can be set to a sequence and basically air massage my feet and legs to my knees. Often used if someone has swelling in ankles & legs.  If any of you have legs that you wish someone would rub for you, THIS was my gift to me. I wear socks & long pj's with them & wear them at night so when that burning and squeezing feeling like your feet are in an electric shocks vice grip, I hit the button & magically it all starts to settle down. For my birthday my kid sister sent me a mitt that's like a baseball glove on the inside, it does the same thing and heats too. I've never had such luxury & am very grateful for these tools.  What's that saying "God helps those who help themselves." Im widowed and from the time my hubby and I dated to before he was too sick to carry on, he ever so sweetly rubbed my feet for me before bed every night he could. He was such a sweetheart and I miss him dearly, but these two tools have been so worth my sanity & a good second!

If you are struggling with these or similar issues, let me encourage you to look for aides to help you cope with pain better and it has also reduced what I was taking in Tylenol too. If you need to talk about, I'm here.

I know I'm late on the topic, but we had that wind here too. On the Wednesday, the 11th. It nearly blew me onto the road a few times going to the elementary school. I ended up carrying my 14 lb. pup half way to the school & home in my long coat & I'm so glad i wore it that day as we too had enjoyed warm sweet days. At one point Missy just stopped moving as had I, both  fighting the wind in front of us. Looking down, her little eyes were closed. I scooped her up, tucked her into my coat and zipped it around her. Being close to the ground she had dust blowing in her eyes & it must have hurt bcuz I got a face full too & I'm glad I worn my sunglasses that day as I'm sure my eyes were spared the worst of it bcuz of them.

On the Thursday we went to the coast, typically a 5 hour trip with stops. We left at 6:30 a.m. and arrived after 4:00 p.m.  That wind had left us and knocked a pathway of beautiful trees down all over the sides of and on the highway.  The amount of trees down was Bazar it was like a green carpwt of pine trees for miles! When we finally got to my sister & bro inlaws, they told us both highways had been closed and power had been out all night in many places. We ran into snow and thick ice in the mountains stopping so many big trucks. They all needed to chain up & many needed to just pull over & wait it out.  I had not seen such a storm result in years!

We were all exhausted and hungry when we arrived. Coming home, it was agreed I'd  do as I promised my Dad before he died, that I would take on his little shih tzu dogs should he or Mom not be able too care properly for them. My Moms dementia has progressed &  she can no longer look after herself or both dogs. So I took home Boo, a beautiful gold and white 12 year old girl home with us. She was too fat to fit in the airlines carriers in November & the luggage dept. was not an option. So this round we took Boo home.  I'Il be tracking her weight and finding ways to keep her tummy content while helping her gain weight control.  Her back legs are on the weak side & hopefully her hips will survive the excercise she now gets. Its been one week. She's 23.4 pounds. Too heavy for a little dog. Her sister like my Mom have not noticed that we pup-napped Boo. Her sister is doing great in the health & weight dept. She's Moms lap dog, so we felt for Moms wellness Belle stays with her for now but that can change too. All expenses with Boo are covered as Dad provided well for when he was gone.  Boo is loving getting tons of attention from us all. Missy has adjusted well also.

Speaking of Miss G..  spring break & I get her in 28 min. Id best scoot. Sorry for the long read. It feels good to be back.

@tony-h This is absolutely spectacular! Impressive that you’ve climbed it, and I can see why you want to climb it again. Just beautiful! How long will it take you? Any hiking I did in Portugal pales in comparison to this. My hat is off to you, Sir!

Eric and Chelly, the funny thing about having Rush play my high school is that they hadn’t made it big yet, so none of us knew anything about them, or even cared, for that matter. It wasn’t until much later that people started saying, “Wait, isn’t that the band that came here last year?” Bragging rights are only valid if you know what’s going on, and I certainly didn’t.😂

Linda, I enjoy painting too. And gardening. I will start my tomato seeds indoors by April 1st, and I am itching to get working in my garden. Unfortunately, the ground is still not warmed up enough to do anything other than cleanup. High of 2C today.😕

Yay! I permanently joined Team Linux early last year, between Micro$soft going the way of nonsense to being tired of seeing operating systems controlling us, rather than the other way around. I decided to go with an "Atomic" system, since my over 20 years of *trying* to make Linux my daily driver never seemed to work once things broke.

20 years ago, I was happy to spend hours on end to fix things, but my patience these days has me turning to things that just work without fussing about.

So... my TV's media PC runs Bluefin and my laptop Bazzite. Both are based on Fedora Silverblue with some custom tweaks by Universal Blue. It's been a dream! So much more stable than Windows, nothing nags me anymore, no ads or spyware, and the Flatpak store makes installing new software a breeze. It's by far a better OS than Windows.

I've heard of Zorin (and am quite familiar with both Ubuntu and Gnome desktop). I run Gnome on my media PC and KDE on my laptop. Both are great desktop environments, and can serve most people well.

I'm hoping one day to ditch Google's version of Android for something more privacy-focused. If Fairphones were available here (fully repairable smartphones), I would have picked one up. My laptop (a Framework laptop) is also fully repairable, and that's really how these devices should be made.

We have so much in common, Tony! LOL

And that hike through Mt. Brandon looks absolutely spectacular. We have nothing like that anywhere near here!

Weather... just above zero but sunny. This week is going to be wild between thunderstorms and +15C to possible snow and rain all next week. Spring is sooo moody! 😵

Linux is really easy ,and to be honest with zorin the only time I had to go to the command line was getting an older painter working ,

Really must set up a media server ,have an old laptop that would do the job .

Funny enough, one of the channels I follow "Techlore" did an interview with the founder of Zorin just a few days back! Very nice distro. Of course, from Ireland 😉

I managed to install it in a VM, and it's really slick. I like that the software store integrates both apps from Flathub and Snap, so it seems to have more available than through the Flathub-only store I use. Installing more than Flatpaks on Bazzite can be more challenging, due to the Atomic nature of the OS, but I have access to Homebrew (all command line apps) and can run appimages no problem, or even run Debian-native apps through Distrobox. I try to keep things as simple as possible, so if it's something available as a Flatpak, that's what I'll use. LOL

And yes, Linux is super easy once you get set up. My wife, who is notoriously bad at navigating her way through a computer, has found it much easier to use with Bluefin (GNOME desktop) vs any version of Windows she used prior. And that's impressive!

Yes, much better than using the "smart" features on my TV, which is just fancy spyware with ads. haha! But I am looking for a remote control that can also be used like a mouse, which would make navigating a desktop OS much easier.
