@granddayout I’m so sorry to hear of your health issues. I have many myself but they won’t consider me disabled yet.
I hope you can make the trip you want to make. If you brainstorm you will come up with a plan.

Hi Mike, A career to be proud of. When trouble turns up the emergency services are heading towards it when everyone else is going the other way.

I truly salute your service.

When I was waiting at a local bike shop, the owner's son was telling me that he's training to become a firefighter. And he spoke of these firefighter events that had teams flying all over the world to compete in! Like those spartan challenges you hear people doing! It sounded tough, but rewarding.

Is dispatch part of your standard training, or were you able to do that specifically to keep you working following your surgery?

Just your friendly neighborhood ostomate.

@veganostomy Thank you.  I did a local version of the firefighter combat challenge twice, teams and individuals.  It's a lot of fun and kind of a love/hate relationship with yourself.  When it's gets grueling I'm like I'm so dumb, why am I doing this?  But afterwards when they ask you donyou want to do it next time I always said yes, lol.

But to answer your question It's not part of our job but it was an option because I already had the certification and had been trained by them.  It's more hours then regular light duty plus I wanted to set myself up for a job in dispatch in case occupational health doesn't clear me for full duty.  Thankfully management has been very accommodating.  Dispatch covers fire and police and they wanted a string fire person so I lucked out in that regard too.
