Hi Marcie,

Just go back a page on this thread. Eric has posted a link to the signature /sign in page ( He posted it just today).. Go there and then work through it. Only to me three tries to get it to do what I wanted ( all on me!). It is really easy, I am just not adept at this stuff.

John, look below, and down size a bit... Now, do u see a cute little red kissable lips? That is what it looks like.. simple, and people will ask what it is..  Some tell them, and they don't know hat the heck your talking about-then when u do explain-well, their eyes tell it all.. Then the awful mouth frown and they think that your not to be dealt with..  Got be with your own group to wear this and In October in the U.S.A. Is ostomcy  month- I may buy one and were it to infusions for my dehydration 3 X / week- next year..  Then the boss nurse will tell me to go sit back in my stupid lonely chair.. It is always, "Marcie! Go back and sit on your bum now!"

I just tell her that "I don't have one." the other nurses laugh.. But I go sit anyways..

Marcie,

The Thread ( at least how I refer to it) is just this discussion chain you are on right now, as you are reading this. Just go back a page and you will find Eric's post. There are page markers at the bottom here .. blue highlight.

Hello out there!! How did your husband/wife/partner/ handle this illness and the outcome?  My husband, won't even look at my Nellie or a pouch fresh from out of the box. He hates hospitals!!  And I think that he is still in shock as, I went down so fast and a long comma, death, 6 month first hospital stay, MAJOR WORRY, and many repeats after that with kidney failures, (which my specialist said that they healed themselves-lucky huh?) being in bed for a year after the nursing home to learn how to walk again With many staples- etc. And now server dehydration and fluids of 12-14 pounds of that every week=3X/week. (it just never ends for me-was so  healthy and boom-pain and passed out the rest is above) 3 years now.  He is a retired Nuclear Engineer-(even was an advisor to President Ford(U.S.A., on this subject as requested by him)

Is he to serious? Is he still in shock by this? He says that I am strong as a bull.. Is he leaving all this up to me? I have a motto-I can take care of myself! - I even have at times, driven myself to the E.R. for  dehydration treatment on some weekends. I DO KNOW that if I could NOT take care of my "Nellie" He would NOT!! COULDN'T , he is very good to me, when I get tired, I get dinner in bed, When I could not do the house work for a few years, he was very happy to pay 30.00 dollars/per/hour for a cleaning lady.  He cooks, (the cleaning? well I will leave that subject--) Does all the grocery shopping. (Never complained about the Million dollar -so-called of my Hospital vacation -just paid it) But somehow I feel that I am alone with this, (besides you all)-THANKS!! We are not a team anymore.. Been married now 47 years.  What is going on?  I try to introduce him to supplies etc. He sleeps in the guest room from me so I have the full huge master bedroom and master bathroom to myself. (I don't mind) As, sleep is so important to us-and when I came home, he didn't want to bother me and the leaks at night-well, as u all know-that long haul--and I don't want him to be up with that either.. But, he knows when I do have to get up for an hour at that time of leaks, he always asks if I am o.k. with his eyes of concern.. In the morning or gets up and asks "can I help?" I say "no" I think this is as far this will go with him.. And don't say find someone to talk with as of a care giver- tried that-nope!! No go--  Any one????

My husband has been excellent with learning about my Ostomy, listens to me about my preferences in how it is dealt with. I've been lucky with not having leaks. I slept alone the first handful of weeks because I was so restless and sleeping so little I did not want to mess his sleep up. Cleaning, well, he does a decent job when he does not get distracted/ hung up. I don't complain because I'm not much of a housekeeper. We do take and bake, simple cooking.

Maybe your husband needs some kind of caregiver support? I can only imagine how hard it has to be for him, 47 years and then such a change to you? James and I have been together for 23 years and I've always been kind of sickly on and off. He's been prepared for it to get worse.

Of course it could also be his engineer brain getting overwhelmed. Husband has that sort of mind where he is always trying to figure out a fix. It's great for physical things but kind of difficult where the emotional aspects are concerned. They don't always handle that part very well.

Felicity, Thank you for your reply! Your a love--True, Men are born with a "take care of" responsibilities.  Maybe it IS his bright brain!  He and others like him, seems/seemed- to me are a steady force of one direction.  If they don't have the serious project of thinking together in that way????????-must be difficult for them-to/he just fix me.  I was not designed by an engineer and no safety buttons, to alter and recapture and make It correctly work again. I am making "it/me" work. I think that he is amazed by my progress when I got going.. I went full speed. Down-up down-up. Yo-Yo here.. As the rest of ya's..

My loss of weight bothers him I know that. But he sees me eat more than him or my adult sons.. Many of his closest friends have passed on so there are no friends to talk with then/and now/ anymore. He was SO alone during this, besides the cat!!  Thank God for Mr. Poo!! Maybe he is lonely? (but he has the cat) I am always trying to get him going -- like see me well again type of thing. Lets go for a ride, eat out..  He wont see/talk with any care givers, but I have left out info. of such for him to read ..  I ALWAYS say in front of  him "Poor Tom, don't know who he went through all this-such a fast slam! And so serious!! So proud of Tom- He pulled me through!! Maybe he is just an 'ol fart... ha ha ha. seriously.. Remember Men fart, Woman make vapors..  Ostomates? What shall we call it?  Besides GAS?  Bubbles? Singing? I like both of them-- everyone VOTE:     (got off track huh)    that's me!!!!!!

Oh, Oscar whistles and chirps when I have a bit too much carbonation, sometimes he chuckles. Most of the time he stutters and bubbles away.

I definitely see the how can I fix it going on in my husband's mind. He went out and bought a mirror and small folding table for use for my ostomy setup, no prompting by me. He just said he figured it would make getting the bag on easier. He's pretty helpless with the medical stuff but he's got his sister, my dad and my brother to help him. She is a chemist, smart lady, sadly not local to us at the moment. Dad and brother are nurses and comfortable with the medical side. Thankfully they are close by.
