What a great trip! I appreciate how you give written versions of your videos. I save the videos to watch when I'm by myself.

UC at age 18, 1981. Diagnosed at 20, proctocolectomy with permanent ileostomy at age 23, 1986.

Thanks, Valerie. It takes a lot of work to do both, but I really do enjoy telling the story and "vlogging" about it. I wish I was better at it so I could speed up my workflow! I've had to skip doing videos of a few trips simply due to my time constraints.

Eric, what a great video you did of Nevada, I loved it, your visitors views of the area and feelings. This is my home so seeing your video with all your pictures was impressive. Thank you for letting me see Nevada through your eyes. Thank you for your presentation.

Thanks, Mike. I was extremely lucky to have such beautiful weather. It could have certainly been colder for that time of the year.

Thank you for your website and for posting your trip. I just feel like I've been on a vacation too.
I've had an ostomy bag for 7 months and the doctor told me today that I'll probably have it for at least another year. While I've been dealing with it pretty darn good I sure miss going and playing in the ocean. but upon doing research today, including your great website I feel a comradary with others and I know I could do this!
Thank you- Greg T in California

Eric, that was fabulous. I live in area much like you  were in and deer are a common occurence in the yards. Lakes, trees and mountains in abundance here too. A simple goal of mine to to find some of the huge pinecones they have somewhere in the States. Such a lovely view from the plane, I love window seats when I've flown. I too felt like I was on a mini vac.  you did such a great job on that video. I'll view the snaps later. Thank you so much, the meals looked awesome! No judgment here! Lol!!! Greg T...I have played in the oceans, pouch and all. Change the night before, apply extra C shaped stretchy tapes, by  coloplast, play in ocean, shower and change pouch later. Its doable! Live.

Great advice, Linda! I have to admit, I have been reluctant to go out in a pool or the ocean. Always afraid of the appliance falling off or bloating at the wrong time

Hi Eric, this video is brilliant and so informative. I hadn't even considered eating less prior to travelling (excellent idea) or that sitting by the window may be an issue if needing to go to the bathroom (I usually opt for the window seat and try not to go until arriving at the destination but now I may not have a choice). We got married in Tahoe so it was a lovely trip down memory lane and it is such a beautiful place. Didn't know that Cliff bars were vegan! You mentioned that you got stopped at security.....were they ok about your scissors? That is one thing that concerns me, although I suppose if I were prepared then I'd pre-cut the bags in advance. Thanks so much for creating this webpage. You're an inspiration.

Yes! I think all Cliff bars are vegan, although, the price of them has gone up by 2-3x in the last few years :(

As for scissors, I always have my Coloplast curved scissors (Amazon link) which have a blunt-ended short blade, and it's not an issue. Fun fact, I've used those scissors for nine years now... still works like the day I got them!

@mrs-shoob  keep in mind you have had your colostomy for a year, you should understand its routine pretty good now.    also keep in mind that the suggestions given are more related to ilieostomies more than colostomies.   more than likely, a window seat is fine for you if the time matches when your colostomy is typical dormant.  do you use a closed end bag or drainable? drainable best for travelling, easy & quick to empty and go.

have you had discomfort with seat belts in the past?  seat belts and my colostomy have never had the slightest problem.     I've taken some good falls on cross country skis, over 15miles an hour falling flat on my stomach, I'd be concerned with a rigid stoma protector with that large impact.     as far as ski poles, i'd be far more worried about a pole in the face compared to a pole to the stoma.   we can't be too fearful of unlikely events.

@veganostomy

Good to know there are no issues with the Coloplast curved scissors.

Planning on some extensive travel in 2023 and will only take carry on.

Thank you.
