Hi all,

Today, as I was raking leaves, I was looking around for my husband's tarp, so I could drag the leaves to the bank. Not being able to find it, I went into my greenhouse to discover my granddaughter's kiddie pool, which she hasn't used in a few years. Then I got the idea to punch two holes on the top edge and loop some baling twine through the holes for a handle. Because it was light weight and large, I could put twice the amount of leaves in it than I could do with my wheel barrow and easily drag and dump the leaves over the bank. Has anyone tried this?

Hi Stella, Most impressed!!👏 necessity is the mother of invention. Have you ever tried using the lawn mower to lift leaves. Some mowers are better at it than others because of the blade angle. I get a lot of pine needles and they get every where.

Great idea! And much easier on those hernia-prone abdominal muscles.  Plus I love that you give your leaves back to the earth as nature intended, vs wrapping them in plastic bags and sending them to a landfill, causing methane gas to escape, and all that ....  Bravo!

@john68

I have never used a mower, though I can see the advantages of using ground up leaves for mulch.😊

@lynne

Thanks, Lynne. I guess my husband and I have lived rurally for much of our married life. Thankfully, we have about 53 acres in which to dump our leaves!😊

We have 35 old oak trees on the property, and leaves in the spring are a huge problem. We'll mow over them several times as they fall, to add them back to the soil, but in some areas, we rake them up and move them to our mulch pile.I usually use a large tarp as well.

Fallen leaves and waste hay from the goat pen make wonderful soil for our raised garden beds the following year!
