I am home from Hawaii. We had a very nice trip. A little busier than when it is just my hubby and I. We were traveling with good friends of ours, and it was their first trip to Hawaii, so I wanted to make sure they had lots of fun. First off, the health stuff. Before I left I had got the results of my bloodwork that my numbers were at the low end of the acceptable range. Well, the night before we flew out of Portland, I had a little more blood in my bag. Then (sorry if this is too much for the menfolk) my period which had been going for almost 2 weeks, started surging like crazy. I feel like I lost quite a bit more blood, and it did slow me down a bit. But I learned a trick. Stocking up on super expensive feminine hygiene products in Hawaii, causes your period to end, causing you to make room in your suitcase to haul it all home. 🤣 Because of my leak problem a couple weeks ago, I decided to overpack ostomy supplies. Between our 8 nights in Hawaii and a night in Portland both coming and going, we were going to be gone for 10 nights. So, I thought I would be safe taking enough supplies for 20 changes. I ended up bringing home 17. But if I had underpacked, I would have run out, so better safe than sorry. I did have a big carryon full of med stuff I thought would be empty for souvenirs and gifts coming home. Instead it still had most of the ostomy supplies, plus my above mentioned feminine items. 🤦🏻♀️ Squeaky had his first ocean experience. We went snorkeling, which was lots of fun. The boat took us from Maui to the shore of Lanai’i to snorkel and then back to Maui to a known sea turtle hang out. It was lots of fun to be watching sea turtles swim below us and then look up to be face to face with another one. I did have a bit of a breach in my wafer after the snorkeling, so needed to do a change. The skin around my stoma was really raw. I think the salt water might have had an effect on it. I took my emergency bag everywhere we went. And Squeaky did not join the mile high ostomy club. Those plane bathrooms are small but as soon as we got in the plane, I scoped out the bathroom and think I could have done a change in there if I had to. I sent my postcards to the 2 people who took me up on my offer. 😀 The night I got home to sleep in my own bed, Squeaky had a major blowout and I woke up covered in poo. So after my relaxing week, I was up at 6:30 showering and doing laundry. At least it waited until I was home. Now I am trying to psych myself up to start my new job on Monday at 6:00am!! I have never had a job that started so early before. But it is a four 10 hour day schedule, so I will get every Friday off. So, Squeaky and I have the travel bug now, so as soon as I build up some vacation at the new job, I’ll start planning the next adventure. I think it was Chris who said I’m not on borrowed time, but extra time?? I’m trying to embrace that idea!! If picture shows in post, it is the sunset from the top of Mt Haleakala last Friday. -Liza Hi Liza, That trip sounds like a success for you and squeaky 👍 Best wishes in the new job. Now that’s a sunset 🌇 ileostomy 31st August 1994 for Crohns @squeakyandliza ...Oh Liza thats all so very awesome!!! I had been praying for you while you were away that you would be leak free the whole time or as much as possible! So Hallelujah!!!! I'd say successful packing too, lololol....that is some insurance package for the monthly stuff! I had a great chuckle over that & your Supplies not making room for souvenirs! What a hoot! Snorkeling is pretty fun to do but getting to do it with Sea Turtles had to be a pretty big bonus!!! Okay, so you didn't get to see the sunrise you were desiring from that high up mountain but that sunset looks absolutely fabulous if you ask me! Wow! It even looks like the sun created a dip in the clouds for more room for that gorgeous Hawaiian sun! How was the trip up on your ears & did you go by bus or taxi? This first time we flew with our kids in winter from B.C. to Saskatchewan we gave the kids each a small bag of potatoe chips or for our UK pals, Crisps. (Yes, in Canada we spell a few words differently then the states. Such as Potatoe & Tomatoe.) As the Airplane climbed it distracted our fearful child flyer enough as they watched the chip bag expand to very tight right before their eyes & even brought about a discussion of whether it would burst or not & can you imagine the mess if it did!? It had completely distracted the kids from the noise of taking off & climbing up into the wild blue yonder! Question, did your pouch do the same as the chip/crisp bag did? If so, how did you deal with it? I agree those washrooms are very tiny! They don't really even leave enough room to even change your mind in but I suppose a pouch change could be doable with some creative laying out of supplies. I'm looking forward to the arrival of that postcard, thank you, & because I don't have a stamp from Hawaii I'm hoping it'll have one also. I'm so so so very happy that you had a wonderful trip & enjoyed your Vacation so much! Good luck starting that new job & hopefully you'll be leak free.... at least while your in the office! Linda What a great adventure, and how interesting to read about travels with Squeaky. Thanks so much for the postcard - it was so fun to get it in the mail! Colostomy 4/30/18. Linda, I had to get an international stamp, and I don’t think it was Hawaiian. But the postmark should be. 🌺🌴 Otherwise I might have to go back and just buy you a Hawaiian stamp. 🤣 -Liza Wow, what an adventure for you! I am so glad that Squeaky behaved himself. You were in Hawaii the same time my niece was! Her husband had a week of meetings there, so she and her two girls did a little exploring of their own. Good luck in your new job. I hope Squeaky cooperates with you while you are there! God bless! Stella @squeakyandliza Thank you Liza! No matter the postage its from my dream trip destination! I'll let you know when it arrives, I think its taking Canadas lovely scenic route! Lololol! Linda
