With one large numeral one.Β  I will send photos and bring some to the lounge!Β  Let's see. Stella will need a new party dress. What do you bet she misbehaves??Β

Was it worth it?Β

I'm asking because I am afraid to try 'overdoing' it. Right now, I value sleeping for 4 hoursΒ  without having to wake-up for emptying . Friday night,Β  I ate a 4 course family meal and got no real sleep. I'll probably forget my trouble by next Friday night.Β

When will I learn?Β

Marcie,Β  just remember it isn't the falling that hurts you so much as the bump down below when you're stopping.

Zvi, I over did it once about a month and a half after my Ilieostomy. I ate a huge meal at a leisurely pace at a later hour than normal. Drank plenty of fluids, ate lots of good food, enjoyed the company vastly. It was a good 2 hours when we were done so I needed to empty, not a lot, maybe a cup of output. I decided not to because the place had a carpeted bathroom and I was still kind of iffy about my bag aim. I figured it was only 15 minutes to home. How fast could the bag fill up on me?

5 minutes out where there was no place I could use a restroom Oscar is doing his best fire hose impression. I could feel it pumping out, I decided to burp the bag as best I could, leaving no air and say a prayer. 10 minutes out the bag sat heavy on my lap, over half full. I looked desperately hoping I had an empty gatorade bottle I might be able to drain into. No such luck, I'd cleaned the truck out. Finally made it home and there was barely any airspace left in the bag. I had a poo bomb attached to my belly, ready to explode. I supported it with both hands while dear husband opened the door for me. I made it, thankfully, to my bathroom without carpeting to drain the bag.

I did wake up once to a pretty full bag that night but otherwise I slept pretty well.

Lessons learned, I carry puppy piddle pads so I can lay one down if needed. I also should carry a gallon zip lock bag or something of the nature for emergency dumps. I'd do it again even with all the issues.

Changing the subject,Β  I,Β  yesterday, paid an old debt of gratitude.Β

The story goes like this :

When I moved from Houston to Louisville, KY,Β  in 1976. I had to move with a Uhaul trailer behind my 11 year old clunker. It was packed to the gills. To make a 1000+ km story short,Β  I had a flat tire in the Ozark mountains.Β  I needed to fix it.Β  I rolled to a stop at the side of the super highway. Got out and saw the trouble.Β

I raised up my hands and cried out," God help me ".

30 seconds later, this big bad Buick pulled up behind me and a real Redneck got out. Big intimidating fellow with a porkpie hat . AΒ Redneck.Β

He asked me,"son, what's the problem? "

I answered, "sir, I have a flat tire".

Not saying another word, he turned and went to the trunk of his car, opened it and picked up something.Β  He walked back to me and handed me a can of Flat Fix. I was astounded,Β  to say the least.

I pulled out my wallet and wanted to pay for the can.Β

He said ,NO, SON, YOU CANNOT PAY ME, YOU HAVE TO PASS IT ON! And he left.

This episodeΒ  (which I am typing with 1 finger,Β  so it is highly edited) taught me to show my appreciation of the goodness that I received by passing it on to the NEXT p er son. It is a debt of honor that must be paid.

When I got my stoma,Β  I had a rough time. My wound was seeping under the wafer, I used 14 wafers in 2 days.Β  A friend of my daughter helped me with supplies and show and tell.Β  He helped me till I was readmitted to the hospital for dehydration.

Took a long time to lick the problem,Β  including firing Rhonda the incompetent WOCN .Β

Yesterday,Β  I paid my debt to my daughter's friend.Β  I helped a young woman with her problems with Ostomy bags. She had the hospital issued El-CheapoΒ  clear ,one piece bag with the clip. Every night it would burst on her. She was stuck in Rehab because she was a mess. And the bag was not helping.Β

I brought her a supply of Convetac moldable wafers with opaque bags that have velcro closures.Β  Along with the other items needed to get a stoma properly dressed.Β

I talked her through the process. She wasn't able to get it , so we brought in the aide and we were able to put it on properly.Β Β

She wanted to thank me , but I said,"PASS IT ON ".Β

She did like the story , which I took my time telling .Β

  • I hope you guys liked it , too.

I am happy to have a lavatory on each floor of my home. Emptying is not a heart stopper.Β

In the beginning,Β  when the instinct to empty isn't fully developed,Β  we learned the hard way to not wait till its full. After trail and error,Β  weΒ knowΒ that it must be emptied.Β

Problem is going out after a meal to an evening of embarrassment because you need to wait for the lavatory to be free, or clean or ...Β

Yuck. It's enough to make you into a hermit.

Bless my wife for being patient with me and Ned...
