We had our thanksgiving in Canada last month, and I am already missing that pumpkin pie. 🥧 Hope you’re enjoying an extra slice for us!Β

Yes...Happy Thanksgiving to you all!!!Β  I hope you have as good a time as possible with your safe group.Β  This may be the year to start a new tradition.Β  Something you repeat in the future years to mark this strange year and know that you are repeating it because you stayed safe this year.Β

My family usually gets kind of crazy together , long walks & lots of fun & an evening of with games played by competitive people...but not me ofcourse! lol!.Β  This year, it was almost too quiet following the new rules set out for us this year.Β  But, in the mind of a running rampant Nasty Virus, we needed to do what had to be done so that we can all hopefully spend many more family dinners together in the future.Β

My Mom turned 85 yesterday & it was very hard not to be there to celebrate her life while she can still remember who I am. She is a widow of one year now, she has a noticeable progressive Dementia.Β  I keep thinking...she may very well not know who I am next year, but, I can and I will hopefully be able to still hug her & chat with her next year.Β  I live about four hours away. Mom still knows my voice over the telephone for now & my name eventually comes, but when she says to me over the phone, "oh, its you", I can smile weakly & know that protecting her by staying away from her really makes a lot of sense to me.Β Β

Its been a hard year & a half for my family, but I know that family, because we love them, I can be brave and put on my big girl pants and stay away in order to see Mom and hug her again.Β Β

All the best everyone!Β

Hi all,

Good for you, Liza! I know things are very strange here in the states. We ended up doing Zoom meetings with our loved ones. Yesterday, Zoom gave us unlimited meeting time, so we could do a three-way meeting with family members. I made a traditional meal but used a chicken instead of a turkey (Sorry, Eric and all you vegans!) I also made my vegan version of mincemeat pie. I just use apples, raisins, and cranberries, orange and apple juices (w/o sugar as I don't like overly sweet pies.)Β

Linda, my heart goes out to you as I know how it feels to not have your parents with you at the holidays. Though I lost my parents back in 2007 (they died 10 days apart from each other) I still miss them around the holidays.Β

BTW, a belated Happy Thanksgiving to all my American Ostomates!

God bless,

Stella

I planned on going to my parents' place since they've already had covid and all recovered and are doing well (yay for that.) I wasn't able to get a hold of them though, so I just did my usual DoorDash. I didn't mind though. Kind of interesting having a burrito instead of a normal turkey dinner. lolΒ

I’m glad to hear that both your parents have recovered from Covid, but that must have been frightening! Lots to be thankful for this year, I guess.Β

@zhtfreak....I'm glad you managed to find enjoyment in your dinner anyways! I am really happy to read that your folks both recovered from COVID19.Β  That must have been a little scarey knowing they both had it!! COVID19 is basically shutting down all the vital organs & that makes me mighty sure it is not something I want to catch! I am a regular with pneumonia & usually end up in the Hospital on Oxygen for a good 10 days yearly.Β  Β Back in about October last year I got a pneumonia shot just before covid hit the fan.Β  So far so good!! Combined with the flu shot , I'm feeling safe so far!!Β

Liza, I'm sorry, I forgot to say how good it was of you to make a nice dinner for you & TomΒ  anyways!!Β  I always enjoy making a big meal & all the preparations for a nicely set table too!Β

Stella...thats so great that you had dinner & family via Zoom!! My sister always says " it is what it is" and I always felt that we are in control of our own happiness, its up to us toΒ  make the best of it & things will be fine!Β

Tigerlily...Pumpkin pie is one of my favorites too.Β  E.D.Smith Pumpkin in the can has a great recipe on the back label & you can add in or remove any spice you enjoy!Β

Happy belated Thanksgiving to my American friends. I hope that some of you got to enjoy "Planes Trains and Automobiles" this year - I watch it every year around Thanksgiving and have since I was a kid! LOL

Just your friendly neighborhood ostomate.

@veganostomy...Hanging on to a tradition is a great thing to do and to teach those that come after us the importance of having and keeping them.Β  I find telling the grands the reason we do or repeat things is half the fun as starting a new tradition to add to the old! Way to go Eric! I thought hat was a great movie too!

@veganostomy

That movie is one of my husband's favorites as well. The ending alway brings tears to my eyes. (I am such a sentimentalist!)

@sjlovestosing...Stella,Β  I could not stop thinking about what you said.... how terrible to loose both your parents so closely together!!!Β  Β That must have been very difficult for you and your family. I can not imagine & never want to deal with anything like that.Β  One at a time is hard enough.Β  Β You must be a very strong person.Β

Hi Linda,

I don't know if I am a very strong person really. I got through my grief only by the grace of God and of the support of family and friends. I am no more different than anyone else.Β
