You are going to love this one... I was walking out of Walmart's and was stopped by a security guard - telling me that one of the cashiers thought I had something hidden under my tee shirt. I wear dark, long tee shirts - makes ostomy less noticeable. Needless to say, I knew this was going to be fun for me and red faces for them, so I went with the security guard who then called the cops telling them I was a shoplifter -- after I told him it was none of his business what was under my shirt. My stoma (I named him "Raspberry" because of all the noise he makes)was performing right on cue - a farting gurgle fest for sure and lots of liquid being expelled into my pouch. I kept my hand on my pouch feeling the volume so it wouldn't over-fill possibly causing a leak. Eventually the police showed up and now here we were in the security office (2 cops, 1 security guard, the original cashier and me). I finally relented, lifted up my tee shirt and showed them my colostomy in all its glory (I have a transparent pouch and it totally grossed them out). At the same time I lifted my tee shirt up, the stoma gave a great, noisy, wet sounding "belly fart". I asked them if there was anything else I could do for them and told them I had to go empty my bag. The looks on their faces -- priceless. Then, their red-faced apologies started. They were falling all over themselves. I am glad the cops didn't forcefully frisk me or may have gotten a handful of something he didn't expect. I laughed all the way home. All I know is I bet they never had that happen to any of them before and will do their best so it never happens to any of them again. Hope this gave you a laugh - I am still giggling about the whole incident. Have a great weekend. WOW Kathy, you deserve a medal for keeping your cool. Good to force them to be the humiliated ones! Yikes. You did much better than I would have ( to your credit). I guess that is one good reason to have a clear bag too. Thanks for posting this. P.S.I have always hated Walmart ( Mall Wart). When we go there my kids call it "feeding the beast" Our local wally world had two older women Who stand at the doors and search your cart before you can leave. We call them Cagney and Lacey. A friend of mine was accosted there because they thought she had stolen a bottle of makeup foundation. It got ugly. She has not stepped foot in the store since. God when you choose to leave mountains unmovable oh give me the strength to sing it is well with my soul Thanks for all your comments. I am a bit of a "smart ass" at heart and just really couldn't help myself when that situation presented itself. I could have taken it further and called the local news channel. They love stories like this, but I restrained myself (for once). I probably will be getting an apology letter from Walmart soon. Can't wait for that to come, but luckily, we have other stores in the area so I will never have to go through those doors again. YEAH. I know that the airlines will accommodate you - they do have a protocol for ostomates and those with other medical conditions - when it comes to checking in and other security issues. Might even be on Vegan Osteotomy site. It was a great article about what to do in advance to get privacy clearance, what to carry on the plane, etc. Well, if we have to live with an ostomy, might as well enjoy it once in a while. Tee hee. Imagine that you were arrested. What do prisoners do? After all, manure happens. Yoy vay! Fantastic story! Since my surgery, I've feared that happening to me. Especially when the cashier doesn't deactivate the security label on something you've purchased. I think you handled that perfectly, I doubt that I could have pulled that off myself.
