Hello everybody, this is Barbara coming to you from the emergency room at Holy Family Hospital in Spokane Washington. I got over here and they got me in fairly fast you're right you tell them stoma blockage and they kind of rush things along. They have not found anything extremely seriously wrong it's a whole bunch of little things from my arthritis to my diabetes to the ostomy and everything combined together his just stacked up against me. Right now they have me on a ton of fluids they've got me scheduled for CAT scan and they have put me on some pain medication that's helping a lot. Same pain med I take it home but it sure works better when they shoot it into a vein. They have decided that they are going to admit me to the hospital so I'll probably be here for at least one day they said maybe two or three. And my surgeon dr. Juvelier who did my surgery is in the hospital and found out I was here and he took over so I will be under his care again. He's a good dog and I trust him a lot. Thank you everyone for being there and helping me to calm down a bit and get it drip I have a tendency to panic sometimes. I'm also one of those people who startles easily you know if you if you say boo at me you have to scrape me off the ceiling. As for prednisone. And I've been on it for 6 years and it was given to me to help control rheumatoid arthritis. As a steroid and helps bring down inflammation and that in turn brings down pain. You're absolutely right about not going off and you have to do it carefully. One of the hospital doctors when I was in for my surgery in January took me off of it cold turkey and threw me into adrenal failure and adrenal failure is really easy to die from and I came pretty close before they figure out what was the matter with me. It makes me feel better than I have any right to for a little while and then those lovely side effects kick in. For me I get on an emotional roller coaster that is much like terminal PMS. I can go from zero to bitch in 1.2 seconds flat. It also has a tendency to make me gain weight which I do not want to do after all that I've lost in the last year. But if the Remicade that I'm on now kicks in and works for me I should be able to get off of Prednisone. With the Remicade I have done the loading Doses and in two weeks I can will be on my first drink of my regular dose of it haven't had any effects yet but there's telling me another couple of months yet before it kicks in so I'm hoping and praying it can put my rheumatoid arthritis into remission which would just be a godsend. Well I'll keep you posted on what they find out about me again thank you all for being there for me and for your encouragement and your kind words they did help and help help to calm me down. I'm finding this form to be a good place where I can talk about things that I just can't talk to anybody else about because they don't get it. I live in a 55 plus senior living apartment building and if you talk to anybody about what's wrong with you know they always have something is worse and it just gets really old sometimes so anyway thanks again

Thanks Eric. You're right the thing that I have found about the Forum is that there's finally a place where I can talk to somebody about what's happening to me that knows that understands and then has compassion. I was telling a little while ago that in the place where I live there's a lot of older people in wheelchairs and all that kind of stuff. And they'll ask you how you are how the surgery went if you tell them you get about four or five words into what you're telling them and they start telling you about their rheumatoid arthritis and how terribly bad awful and it's totally obvious that they don't have rheumatoid arthritis don't know anything avout it. Here there's always somebody who's been through something the same and it's a big help thank you again for creating this spot for all of us to be in

Hi Barbra,

Thanks for letting us know how you are doing. Hospital is never much fun, but its a comfort to get the help you need and find out whats what.

When I was getting Remicade infusions a lot of people were getting it for the RA. I really hope it helps. some things really do take awhile.

Anyway, best wishes ( I also am on the west coast .. San Diego) so I am still up.

Off to watch some bad TV now...

AHHHHHHHHHHHHH My yellow rose is so blooming!!!!!!!!!  She started out as a cute bud and all alone in her vase from the other bigger buds, she is doing well!  And you my dear, are in the best place for you at this time!!! little trouble getting u there but????? Your there!!

I hope that this finds you calmed down and knowing that your in good hands.. No more worries.. Let them do their job, and you do yours-like - getting a normal, regular routine when u get home.. Then let the other thing fall into place as they may- Remember YOUR health is important FIRST!! Along with a normal routine-they really go together.. Have a good nice talk with your Doctor, tell him HOW YOU feel the past few months -- Everything.. Have to work together and make a good team-

So happy to hear from you Barb. I was hoping that you brought your phone or what ever u have to communicate!! Sleep well................... Marcie.

Seems like every Med they give me for the ra takes between three and six months to work or to show you whether it's not going to work so you can start over again most long-drawn-out process I've ever had to go through

I have a special arrangement with my primary care doc. I have the tendency to do as I again did today to procrastinate calling or going to the hospital and she's she says to me whenever you do that you don't just get sick you'll get awfully sick and just go way over the top. So I am now supposed to call her when I wake up in the morning if I feel a little funny or if there's a twinge of something just supposed to call her and talk it over. I'm not good at that but you're right when she get here and you've told him what's going on and you talk to him and you just kind of give it over to them and let them worry about things it's very comforting feeling to be able to know that they can do that and I've got a good team working on me. So that's one of my issues that I just have to work on his no more procrastination for Barbara back up and go when you got to go and do what you got to do. My Samsung 7s is hermetically sealed to my hand it's better than American Express and I never leave home without it.

Sounds like a perfect plan Barb. ( do u mind if I call u Barb?)

Your Dr. should know how YOU feel in your mind and your feelings of your body issues.  I am sure that the Med. thing is a long haul for u, but something has to give.. That is why you HAVE to tell your Dr. how you feel mentaly(sp)-upset-over what, could be the meds. making u more upset,  could be something else.. Your part of a team Barb, and I think that u have a good team going if u stick to it..

Glad no more putting off calling the Dr. Did they find anything yet?  I am so at ease that your in their hands now.. A fresh start when u come home.. Thanks for keeping in touch.. M.

I am finally settled and in a room I got here to the ER today at 2 and it is now 10:20 in the evening. The wheels of modern medicine turn very very slowly. But I now have some good drugs into me that are helping the pain. they just gave me about 8 mg of Dilaudid and that should hold the fort for a little while. I take prednisone because I have a handful of autoimmune diseases. I have as I've said before I rheumatoid arthritis, inflammatory spondyloarthropathy, polymyalgia rheumatica and type 1 diabetes. All of them being autoimmune diseases. A lot of people don't know that rheumatoid arthritis is a terminal disease. My rheumatologist in his infinite humor told me after he had a firm diagnosis that I now knew what I would die from. He even indicated to me after all of this stuff with the with my colon and the diverticulitis he said that the inflammatory properties of the rheumatoid arthritis probably caused or heavily contributed to the diverticulitis problems and then the extended problems as they tried to rupture. rheumatoid arthritis is going to get me in the end but that's the way it goes and I don't intend for it to be for many many many long years. Remicade is going to put that sucker into remission and I'll be all right for a while. Well they  just now came in and told me that I am now in quarantine seems that I have c-diff on top of everything else so I have everybody coming in to visit me in these cute little yellow gowns and masks kind of reminds me of being at a Mickey Mouse tea party or something anyway I think I'm going to see if I can get some sleep I  didn't get any last night so maybe I'll get some tonight. I can tell right now I'm rambling so I'm going to shut up and I'm going to close my eyes and go to bed I'll talk to you later and thank you again for all your kindness and concern for me all of you!
