I agree it's annoying. I use a pin to create mini holes. It helps to some degree.

i  put a piece of duct tape over it but wonder if that lessens the efficacy of the vent.

Is your output liquid, loose, or dry? 

When I was using the ez-vent, I would "squeegee" any output away from the vent before opening it up. That did help quite a bit, but it was always a little risky to open the vent when the bag was super full of gas as the pressure would be.... forceful 😲

But if I cover the tiny hole does it make the ez vent not do its job?

Are you putting the tape on the inside or outside, and can you remove it to allow gas out when needed?

Provided that you have some airflow, the vent will work. Just keep in mind that the vent isn't designed to be kept open all the time, but only when needed.

I'm putting on the back so that the fabric won't get soiled. I would never cover the vent on the front. 
I'm usually done after two outputs. I guess I could remove it for rest of day and then apply at bedtime. Even though stoma inactive, that's where I first saw soiling.

I'm new (November8,21) and body making adjustments.

Bottom line: 

Does the ez vent work if you block hole in the fabric vent on back of pouch? Ergo: some soiling  will occur.

@kittyk Is the soiling coming from the hole in the vent or from under the vent, where the adhesive part would be?

If its coming from the adhesive part then I can see how it would soil even if the vent was closed or covered. Can confirm where it soils from?

it comes from where you put the scissors in to create hole on the opposite side of where vent attached. The side directly next to my body.

Eric has never addressed it in his videos.

Ok, we are getting closer to solving this :) 

Are you using rubbing alcohol on the bag's surface before applying the vent? And are you holding the vent in place with some pressure to give the adhesive time to bond really well? 

There should be no leaking from that part of the vent, so it's possible that it's not bonding 100% to the wafer and/or the hole you're making could be too large.

@kittyk  ... Welcome to VO. I use the Osto E Z Vents all the time now. There are ways to deal with this leak issue.

What I'm about to tell you  is NOT recommended by Eric or the osto e z vent company.   This was through trial & error & frustration to find an easier way. 

If your talking about output sneaking out when opening the vent you can help avoid this by using you index finger to give the vent a good couple of flicks while the cap in place.  This usually sends output back where it belongs.

 If you are not of Legal age please have a Parent or Guardian assist you.  I'll take you thru the steps I use to adhere the vents to the pouches             To remove the shine off the bag with rubbing alcohol can take a very long time even with 90% alcohol.  I learned from another ostomate here to use a fine fine grain sand paper & it takes a much shorter period of time to remove the shine which needs to be removed to adhere the vent correctly to the pouch.   I use 120 fine grit sandpaper.   Gently rub the shine away in the area you plan to stick on the vents.  Check for shine, it should all be gone.  With a damp cloth I wipe the area clean of any partickes I sanded away.  Set aside to let it dry while you start another pouch.   When dry, take a close look at different all angles to see all the shine is removed. The area should look white with no shine where you intend to place the Osto E Z  Vent.  IF you still see some shine sand a bit more & repeat wiping the plastic & drying. Go easy,  I have sanded a teensy hole in the pouch before,  so while getting the feel of it just go easy.

 Once the areas are all cleaned & dried, no shine showing, I'll run a cotton ball   with alcohol on it to remove any skin oils you may not see, this is just an extra step in a good seal. Let dry again.  

Next,  if you have tender fingers & no helpers,  I had my son cut me a 1 inch piece of wooden dowel or a piece of a broom stick measuring approx. Size of the vent. Then drill about a 1/4 inch hole in the center flat space of the wood  & sand both ends smooth. Check that it fits over the vents little tube. 

Plug in your hair dryer.  Lay it on a flat hard surface,  away from flammable products.  Line up your pouches in an easy to reach area.   Remove the plastic covering to the little adhesive disc on the back of the vent. Turn on the hair drier &  heat the adhesive disc & place it on the pouch &  press firmly on the vent on the flat counter using the little wooden post over the vent to & hold it for the time recommended by he company.  This is worth the effort to get a good seal. Set aside for the adhesive to cure onto the plastic for 24 hours.

Buy yourself a box of wooden match sticks & sort for thru for the ones that fit easy into the small pipe on the osto e z vent.  Check your seal around the base of the new vents to make sure they are attached all around & avoid a leak. 

Next.. PRACTICE 1st how you will hold the pouch & vent up & away from other parts of the pouch.  Now,  light a match stick & hold it  upright for even burning & at the same time prepare the pouch area by lifting the plastic up & away from all the other surfaces as much as you can.  When you see the match center is  glowing red,  blow out the fire & place it ever so carefully thru the vent & thru the plastic.  Remove & there you have an almost flawless hole for the vent.

Hey Charles, welcome. 

Yeah, the bottle in the video is hit-and-miss when it comes to availability. 

My suggestion for anyone who's looking for a new bottle is to find one that they can cut the nozzle on, like these ketchup bottles that can be found anywhere. 

I don't have an EZ-Vent on hand that I can measure, but I'm hoping one of the other forum members can measure one of theirs. 

@charlesbigtruckaol-com ... the opening is 3 mm. Uncut tips on the "clear condament" type bottles with a fine point can be found in dollar stores.  In the cake decorating section of dollar stores there's a smaller more pocket size  bottle available , often 2 or 3 in a pack with a more tiny pointed tip that can be cut to size also. These are often used for the more artistic decorating of cookies.
