Hi there ostopals!

I know I’ve been MIA for a while. I have been super busy with work. Fortunately though I really like my job and my boss, so it doesn’t seem so bad.

Here is my question...  I have been having lots of granulomas lately (one of many reasons for all my leak problems). I go to the Ostomy nurse to have them burned off now and then. The last time I was there, she suggested I ask my GP to write a prescription for silver nitrate sticks and lidocaine fluid so I can go ahead and burn them off myself. My doctor said she would do it, but she wasn’t sure where to send the prescription.

Does anyone out there get silver nitrate sticks to burn off their own granulomas?  If so, where do you order them?

Thanks!!

Hi Liza, This side of the pond we can order through the Doc and collect from the pharmacy. It’s easy enough to use but wrap the stoma with some gauze and be careful. Try and get them covered by a ring or the wafer. They do luv to feed of your output. 😀

Please don't buy them from Amazon. They come often open, not sterile, or in dangerous concentrations. I'd call around to local pharmacies and ask if they have them or can order them in. I'm sure they can!

My doctor said she would do it, but she wasn’t sure where to send the prescription.

If you have a regular pharmacy that you use for meds, that'd be where I'd want her to send it.

Thanks for the suggestions!!  I appreciate it!!  I never even considered looking in Amazon, which is weird because Amazon is usually my go-to for most situations. 😊 Thanks for the warning about ordering them in Amazon, Goatherder!

I will call my regular pharmacy tomorrow. 😊
