@loveanimals hi, have you found something that you can use since your last posting? I was just curious. @chelly Hi @Chelly- I’m still waiting to retry Marlen and need to still contact Cymed but nu hope sent me a sample of a different pouch. The rep from nu hope basically confirmed that their Velcro closures contribute to the leaks by having pieces of the Velcro break off into the pouch. The alternative pouch is a clamp closure where the clamp comes completely off when it’s time to rinse/drain making it very hard to rinse as pouch opening doesn’t stay open it closes in on itself making it hard to drain and hard to hold to drain. So I have two choices Radom leaks pouch or challenging rinse/drain pouch until I hear from some other companies. Thanks for inquiring. @loveanimals cymed never sends a sample. I request and they send me an email saying we got your ticket and someone will get a hold of you shortly and then no one ever does. Once I got someone by email and he promised to get it out to me and never heard back from him. I dint think I would even want those bags anymore because it doesn’t seem like they even have a business or care about it but I love the concept of the micro skin. I recently put in another request because I’d like to try one but same thing. Never got anything. Thought I’d give them another shot but they blew it for me. I understand what you’re saying about the clip closure pouches. When I first got my ileostomy I started with that. The convatec 22771 active life so I became accustomed to the clip right off the bat and emptying. Basically I stand to empty and j would just get the output out like toothpaste by squeezing it out and then getting a real good hold on the end and rinsing out with a water bottle. I got good at it but when you’re used to the Velcro ends and they are much wider it would be very frustrating for you I can see. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=4GIv3iEoj-0 Hi @chelly I have been sent some sensura mio pouches and am going to cut a small sample off to do a skin test but it’s hard to get an accurate skin test when I’m always wearing an appliance. I may have success because I still use the new hope barrier ring under my pouch. I gave up on vented pouches a long time ago too. Being forced to change appliances is not ideal but I do have options some not great but at least I have options. Thanks for your input it’s helpful!! @loveanimals yes I just felt the need to give you some input in case I could help. I just got through going through pouch issues myself and having to change pouches. I have bad adhesive allergies too. It’s very stressful because this is something we absolutely need. Pouch changes are no fun. I’m glad mine is finally over with. It was a nightmare for me and trying to work all in between. I never had time to go the patch tests so I would always have to wait for my only 2 days off per week to try them out. Sending good vibes your way that you will find something that works out for you. If all else fails it may be worth to just keep working with that skinny ended pouch with the clip because eventually you will get it down pat to perfectly be able to empty with no problems. It just take practice. At least with clips you know nothing can come out the end as long as you have that clip latched on good. One good tip I can give you about the clip. When you take it off I always tucked it in my pants at the waist line too because I’ve had them accidentally fall into garbage cans toilets etc., while I was trying to empty. Keep us posted as to what you finally find that’s working out for you. @chelly thanks that’s a great tip for clamps! I’ll update this post as I progress but it may take some time to get the perfect fit. It has taken me almost 6 months to trust my new pouch and the manufacturer. I found a much better pouch in shallow convex Marlen they don’t have small holes in them like new hope constantly did, low bar I know, but Marlen is nonadhesive and can last for 7-10 days. @loveanimals ...no adhesive?? Wow, that sounds amazing. After reading "rough time" & telling of my recent fright, I did start to wonder what I'd do if I do become allergic to adhesives, esp. for pouches! Yikes! I have only been able to use "paper tapes" on my skin or nothing bandage like sticks to me & usually if it does, esp. on my hands I break out in a rare eczema. This is good to know & keep in mind! Thank you for posting it! Linda @dlkfiretruck It happens hope not to you just wish those that do have adhesive issues could get relief quicker sadly many go through what I did or worse.
have you tried a sensura mio by Coloplast yet? Those are the elastic adhesive I think I mentioned. They are easy close Velcro and wide mouth on the end. They have them in one piece, two piece, clear or gray and with and without filters. It’s a pretty sturdy bag and feels like you’re wearing nothing. I’m using a clear one piece right now but with no filter. I can’t stand filters because the poo gets stuck in them things. They will send you some to try if you call them. For free as the other manufacturers do. Just call their toll free number and a rep will speak with you and send them out but make sure it’s the mio sensura. Maybe they can send you a few samples of their other ones too! The ends of the mio close and then it has a tab that you can tuck up inside as well so it’s not just hanging there. If you go in you tube I do believe they have videos to show how they work. If you’re accustomed to clear pouches make sure to ask for clear.
it sounds like new hope does not know how to correctly attach their Velcro ends. Here I found the video in the link I pasted below.
