Hi- I can’t use adhesive products due to skin irritation so my choices are Cymed, New Hope and Marlen I have been doing great with NewHope for the last year when I had a couple boxes of pouches with tiny cuts in them.  New Hope replaced one of the two boxes but again I have another box with small cutes in them that once warmed up and the slightest tension in pouch leak.  The company said they would respond but hasn’t repeated emails and calls go unanswered.   I feel like I should reach out to a state or government oversight committee because I have no power other than to quit using their product. Anyone have suggestions or have similar experiences?

I'm sorry you've had to go through that. Did you purchase those directly from Nu-Hope or through a supplier? I'd contact the supplier, since they'd likely be able to help.

How long has it been since you contacted them without reply? When you call, do you have an option to leave a message?

Nu-Hope is a pretty small company compared to Coloplast or Hollister, so it's possible that they are just slower to get back.

I'm sure you could file a complaint to a group like the Better Business Bureau, but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and assume that they've just been busy and will get back to you whenever possible.

Please keep us posted.

@veganostomy I did final get in touch with NH but they are skeptical about my complaints because they had more complaints 2 years ago when they also had pouches with leaks.  They want me to send used and unused pouches to them ect and in the mean time I need to find a different pouch not NH quickly as my supply is running low. Thanks for your reply.

@loveanimals I hope that you do get a chance to send them some samples to test. I recently had a problem with small holes in Hollister bags, so these things can happen, but it tends to be very rare and quite isolated to small batches of product.

@veganostomy which is why I’m frustrated.  The company admitted that they had a wide spread leak problem 2 years ago I was involved in so for it to happen again means fir this company maybe not so rare occurrence unfortunately. Thanks for reply.

@loveanimals It would be interesting to know what the typical failure rate would be for an ostomy bag manufacturer, and how these failures make it past quality control.

I doubt any of them would even want to make that information public, and I can understand that, but a speedy resolution is always a must.

@veganostomy thanks for your reply neighborhood Ostomate.  I agree with you and I’m amazed at how some of ostomy suppliers treat their patients and the manufacturers aren’t much better.

@loveanimals yes and then you are sending them the evidence that they can deny. That’s really gross that they want you to send a used pouch. Yea, I would be finding a new company. They should have immediately sent you new pouches.

They might want you to send the pouches to figure out where in the manufacturing process things go wrong. It's hard to just work from a client's description sometimes.

Then again, I've been in a back and forth battle with Lofric, because the coating on their catheters stays hard with sharp edges, even after soaking them for 15 mins in warm water. I've even had catheters where the openings were missing. I'd insert a cath without anything coming out. And I kept wondering what I was doing wrong.... They never admitted there was any problem. Not even after I sent a full box of defective caths back.

@chelly thanks for your reply and I am looking for a new company I’m tired of begging to get pouches without holes in them.

@cat-momma I’m sorry u have to go through that.  I feel these medical manufacturers take advantage of the fact that we need to rely on them so heavily.  I have very few options due to adhesive allergy but I do plan on using what alternatives I do have. Thanks

@loveanimals that must be horrible! Are you using their non adhesive pouches? I was actually interested in those because I have adhesive issues too.,when I first got my Ostomy it was so hard to find things that I was not allergic to.

@chelly Hi- I went through the same thing when I first got my ostomy and settled on new hope but I don’t have confidence in their pouches any more and wouldn’t recommend them but I still use the barrier rings which are nonadhesive. What pouch do you use now? I’m getting a sample from Marlen.

@loveanimals hi, I’m currently using Coloplast sensura mio one piece deep convex but without a filter. Their adhesive is elastic.

Thanks I may try coloblast I haven’t used their products in years and I guess I wasn’t aware that they adhere with elastic.

@loveanimals it funny though, I am allergic to their barrier rings. I was allergic to the convatec eakin rings as well.
the adhesive in my pouch is an adhesive but it’s elastic adhesive so yea you could possibly still get a reaction. I guess I just got lucky. So much trial and error with these supplies ya know?
There is one from cymed that they use what they call micro skin but is basically the same thing they use to keep our IV in place in the hospital so that may be something to try to if you haven’t already.

They lost me as a customer with that attitude. Happy with the Coloplast caths, much more discreet too.

@cat-momma I don’t blame you. These problems are no joke and they should be bending over backwards to fix problems and to keep the customers happy and supplied with what they need.
