at 57 i have had over 40 surgeries, many of them thru the abdominal area which have left major scarring.   i have 2 thumb size "holes" below my stoma that cause wrinkling within hours of a bag change.     i use the coloplast alterna 1 piece due to its fairly "stiff" wafer with a barrier ring.    i usually use cavilon skin barrier spray which keeps my skin clear of rash but doesnt help adhesion much in the high heat / humidity of thailand.     i am on day 3 of testing skin tac skin barrier wipes.    better adhesion so far from sweat but i still have 3 BIG wrinkles.   i have tried filling the holes with stomahesive ( turns hard, is uncomfortable and doesnt really solve the problem but is better than nothing ) and a piece of barrier ring (  less uncomfortable but again, doesnt solve the problem but is better than nothing )    these wrinkles always lead to leaks after 2 - 3 days.       i cant be the only one whose abs look like 5 miles of bad road.      anyone found a fix for this issue ?   i am 6'1" - 165lbs.    no wrinkling or folds in skin.   just lots of potholes.

fyi -   there isnt an experienced stoma nurse in my city.  the nearest one is in bangkok - which involves flying to see one and probly wouldnt be very helpful.  i had no issues with leaks or wrinkling post-op but i was in a hospital bed for 14 days and only took short walks with zero bending.    now that im more active,   this is a constant problem.

     thank you 🙏

Just a side note...I found if I use too much skin barrier spray I had more leaks.  It felt like a layer of plastic under my wafer. So as I used less barrier, I had nuch better adhesion.   Start by spraying  it on the inside of you arm to see what I mean. Go heavy to light in a few areas. Let it dry & then feel it & see what it takes to remove it as well.

@dlkfiretruck

just hung up on the coloplast rep after going thru what felt like the spanish Inquisition.     the rep went on and on for at least 10 mins and argued that he knew what i needed and that it didnt matter how many wrinkles my wafer had,  i was applying it wrong and he kept pushing the sheets ( of course he is,  theyre really expensive ) ......is this normally how companies treat people that ask for samples ?!?!?!       i thought you just had to fill out tge request form and they would confirm your address.      wow was i wrong.

@davidinthailand  ... No!!  David, I was never treated like that! Maybe they get Brownie points for selling certain products.

Do not get pushed into anything they are not will to send samples of!  I'm so sorry you went through that!! Shame on them for pressure selling.  Keep in mind that your going to be a customer for life &  they should be keeping that in mind with kindness towards you!! You get to choose the company you prefer not the other way around.

I do have one area where there is a wrinkled bend but It does'nt seem to be a huge problem so far.  I am changing pouches over every three to four days  & keeping a real eye on the issue. I wear a hollister one piece & no charcoal vents as they don't last more then up to a day & a half anyways!  This is where the osto e z vents come in SO much handier!

Hi David, Would a stoma collar be of any help. It would help get output into the bag and not sit around the stoma waiting to take advantage of a wrinkle dip or hollow.

@davidinthailand maybe call back and get a different rep and let them know what the other rep did and that you were not too happy with that. I’ve never been treated like that by them. They have sent me many of samples as long as it was things I never sampled before.

@john68  - i had to google what a stoma collar was.    ive never seen one.      my question is,   do you put this on top of the barrier ring ?    my stoma seems to be morphing into a slight oval,    not sure how comfortable this would be trying to squeeze "the bitch" into it.

anyone that wears a barrier ring and has a non circular stoma have any experience with using a collar ?

@chelly i contacted the complaint department - they said and i quote " how else are we supposed to know what you need"     i said dont you think i might know better.    they replied no.   our reps are very knowledgable.    at that point i gave up.     i am NOT going to go thru that kind of nonsense for $15 worth of freebies.

@davidinthailand I can’t believe they are treating you that way because any of these companies you ask , hey I want to try this and they say ok. You should be able to sample anything you like. Maybe because it might not be Coloplast USA. Canada Coloplast is good too from what others have said. Just know this…. It’s not the normal. I’m sorry you had to go through that and hey you are using thier other pouch too and treating you that way.

Wow, @davidinthailand, that's not how anyone should be treated when making an inquiry.

I do have info on stoma collars, and it's honestly worth a shot if you can get them.

Usually, you'd use stoma paste to fill in any gaps/wrinkles on the skin, but it sounds like you've already done that without much luck.

If you can sample those sheets, that may be worth seeing if/how well they work. Yes, they are expensive, but so is changing the entire appliance more often than you need to.

Keep us posted.

@veganostomy sheets arent available here and would involve purchasing on amazon ,  and having my brother mail them here at a cost of at least $35 in shipping.     same with the collar.      i am talking to a "geek" friend about the possiblility of buying a 3d printer and making my own collars from a flexible material.     it has to be more cost effective than the $9 canadian salts is asking per unit and then $35 in shipping.    i would obviously try one or 2 out before going to that extreme.
