Hello,  I was wondering if anyone had experienced this situation.

About 10 months ago I noiced the area around my stoma had changed.  There was a protrusion under the stoma about the size of 1/2 tennis ball, especially on one side and the stoma was now tipping downward. Because of the uneven terrain I started having problems with leaks, especially at night.  That initiated my search for a solution.  I've trialed every seal, past, glue, strip on the market. At this point I've had the most success with Convetec's Eakin seal and a convex wafer. Unfortunately I can only get 24 hour wear time.  I've started trialing convex wafer with coloplast's Brava strips and have had luck with them, even getting two days wear. This is getting expensive!

Heres the "Kicker" I went to my GI surgeon He said it was a  hernia and sent me for CT scan. Got the results yesterday....suprize, no hernia....it is a ball of muscle which is protruding out at the stoma area, mainly because it is the weaker part of abdominal wall.   This is good and bad news..its great not to have a hernia but that means there is no fixing a protruding muscle. I'm stuck dealing with leaks.....

My question is...has anyone else experienced this dilemma?

Smarty, I have not had this exact problem, but I did have a hernia, which was repaired a few months ago. I wonder if you’ve had a look at the Coloplast Sensura Mio Concave flange. It’s especially made for hernia, and while you don’t have a hernia, you do have a bulge, which can present some challenges when it comes to a good fit. You might find that this works well for you. Contact Coloplast and ask for a free sample - they’d be happy to send it to you. Good luck.

No, not muscle, but I do have a large, irregular  hernia, and the only 100% fix is a convex wafer. I use the Hollister 2 piece convex system and have not had a leak in 6 years.

@tigerlily

hello,

thank you for your reply.  I am aware of the coloplast flip and even recieved a sample but I was unable to manage the locking system on the bags, so that is a dead end. At this point I quess I will have to be satisfied with the one day wear and continue to trial various leak prevention methods....

@goatherder

Yes the convex wafer helps my situation.  I think there are other factors beyond my uneven stoma such as changes in my skin.

Thanks

Hi smarty, their is a seal from Trio it’s silicon and very flexible. I am not sure what the availability is in your neck of the woods but it’s maybe worth having a look 👀.
