When was the last time you needed to empty your bag and how full was it?

How much have you been eating (volume wise)?

I don't tend to worry unless I get cramping or my stoma retracts (for me, this is a red flag that my stomas is blocked).

Hi.

Emptied bag appx 24 hours ago. About half full.normally needs emptying three of four times a day.

Since then almost nothing but eating a lot to put on weight. All the same as previous three weeks but suddenly no production.

First time this has happened

Hi Derek, I can have the same experience and its not because of a blockage. As Eric points out as long as you don,t have cramping etc. I would get my tummy swelling. if nothing happens warm drinks and a warm bath can help.

Hi Derek,

Becoming nauseous is also a sign there is something wrong. So pay attention to that too.

If you have access to a stoma nurse by phone or in person , that might also be a good choice.Especially if it goes on very long or you experience any discomfort.

Good luck.

Thanks all.

So far no discomfort  just big reduction in production no reason!

Don't think it's a blockage as some is still being secreted. Am a bit nervous  being a newbie at this.

Great advice from you all.thanks again.

Has anything else changed for you in the last 24 hours? Have you been under more stress than normal? Are you doing strenuous work/activities? Just trying to think of other things that might cause your output to slow down.

Derek, make sure you keep up your fluids during this too. I get heavy on the V8 juice when that happens. Up those fluids.  Sometimes the guts just take a bit of an unassigned rest. It can be a bit unwavering when nothing happens sometimes. Maybe our bodies are making better use of the foods we eat or taking that bit of a rest. Write thing down ans the time and what your eating. This works well with others and it is good if you end up in the hospital. You will be knowledgeable about you situation. I often find because of having short gut syndrome that if my guts are resting I lay down a bit more. It sort of helps distribute fluids and air a bit easier.  But that is me. You will find what works for you.  Remember if it becomes a blockage, you can just hand the paper to the doctor as it is easier than answering a hundred question if you in pain. They appreciate the info as well. Hope all goes great for you, keep us in the loop.

Derek,  That is great!  My gut will often take that unassigned break, but it does make me wonder just what is going on every single time!  I call it unassigned, because I have been able to a scheduled bag change the day before I go somewhere or out for the next day.  Because  my stoma seems to be always doing something, If I need to be away from home the next day, I will not eat breakfast or drink more than it takes to swallow a pill until I have changed my bag over.  I call that the assigned Break! I run full steam ahead 24/7 and am up on average two to three times a night and so, so, so, many more times in the bathroom during the day.. The day I go out, I will not eat anything till after one in the afternoon and drink only what I need to until then also. All hell can break loose once I get home.

Hope things stay what your normal is!

Update.

It happened again. No production for over 24 hours so went to the surgeon.

Donned surgical gloves and put  some Vaseline on stoma and pressed quite hard. Definitely  a bit painful but worked.

Says to do this in the future.

Something to do with making the muscles work.

Hope it helps  someone.

Hey Derek. Did he push on the stoma or the area around it?

I sometimes push down on the area around my stoma to get output to move (helps when changing my appliance).
