I believe I’ve discovered the problem with strange odors coming from the bag. When I dry my bag in the morning with a towel or paper towel, I was pressing too hard on the filter area of the bag, crushing whatever plastic mesh material that was there. This somehow damaged the filter enough to allow gases to escape so far this seems to of solve this problem. Be careful of crushing the filter area.

Unfortunately, there's no magic with filters. They are pretty basic in design and function, and are prone to problems when they get wet or bent.

I gave up on filters years ago, but if you decide to keep using them, don't crush them (as you've discovered already ?) and protect them from getting wet whenever possible.

Just your friendly neighborhood ostomate.

@rick this is why I will not wear a filtered bag. I’ve tried them and if you pancake it’s all over. If you rinse it’s all over lol! It seemed like smells were coming out of the filters.

I am wondering what purpose the filter has..it seems to balloon and I have to burp it 95% of the time.  Does the filter tend to work only the 1st day of wear?
After showers and cleaning it seems to become useless…I may order no filters in future.

@rick the only time mine ballooned is if I put the sticker over the filter. I think the purpose might be to let out gas? Maybe Eric can chime in. I bet he knows more.

Hi,

I have mixed feelings about filters.  Mostly do not like them, but there are times I use them.

I rinse my bag and filters do not like to get that wet. I find that once mine has been rinsed a few times any benefit from the filter is lost ( such as helping with ballooning)

My non filter bags are clear so when I know I will be changing clothes in public dressing room or when I am training and my bag will show I wear a filter bag ( clothe covered ).

It would be nice if someday they could come up with a system that checks all the boxes for us.

Have a good evening.
