Am I the only one who wishes the makers of ostomy bags provided at least some variety in the color with their products?  It may seem a bit petty, but I think it would be great to have some choice.  What's with this beige color anyway?  It just screams "Medical device!"  Sure, there is the grayish of Coloplast, and I know Salts makes black and white bags, but why not all manufacturers provide some variety?  And, I know you can get covers for bags, but I don't like adding ANY bulk to my bags.  I love Hollister products.  But I hate that I am tied to that tired old "medical appliance" color.  Think about how much their sales would increase if they decided to provide a variety of colors.  I think I'm writing them to give some input.

Totally Agree, have always wondered why not more variety. Ok you what a colour that doesn’t show through clothing, but different colours could be useful. Even the packaging! The only company I have seen that makes attractive packaging is Siltac Tro.

Glen, I think this is a good IDEA! covers do cause extra bulk under clothing even if made of silky material...unless flying free! lol.  I'm sure the beige is to mimic "skin tone", but in light of the past year and "Black Lives Matter",   I have to wonder how they feel about the beige on their tummies!  Imagine that!

I always thought Green or Brown Pink or Blue Camo would be fun to wear! Care to share what you have in mind?? Anyone else with colour ideas and maybe why??

Maybe a flap of some kind to check on contents would be helpful....just thinking...

How about fabric dye like Rit Dye  Just a Dip in the dye.  You could even get fancy with tie-dyeing your bags. :-) https://www.ritdye.com/

I like this idea, but I think unless you wash them a bunch of times before wearing them, you would get some of the dye bleeding off onto your clothes.  It would be pretty easy to do, though.

I'm going to try this technique - using patterned duct tape.  I really like her ideas.

And, I know that this (doing duct tape covers) is a lot of work for a bag that will be used for just a few days, but I think it will be fun to at least try.  Can't say I'll do this a lot.  I also wonder how it will affect the comfort of the bag.  I'll give a report soon.  🤪

Absolutely not the only one. Every time I speak with manufacturers, I bring it up!

That's so awesome that you found that video. I'm actually good friends with Christy! Please let us know how it goes.

For me it is a lot of work for one day. 😂 But I think this is such a fun idea. I’m very curious how yours turns out because I want to try it too.

@veganostomy

It's time that these companies understand how fashion-forward we ostomates are.  😄

I have used Rita Dyes several times. There has never been any bleeding of dyes onto clothing or skin nor to socks or clothing from sitting on the carpet.  The dyes back then were in powder form. The company has been around since dinosaurs &  I am aging myself here,  lol,  and are good for all sorts of products!

I don't think covering with duct tape is a bad idea  at all.  I learned  accidently, how many incredible  patterns of tape there are available. Check out their web site!! I'm a crafter & don't think it would really take too long  to do it all.  Remember she was working with a pattern  that need lining up to look good, so it will take longer,  well worth the try l think!! This video is one of the 1st I had ever seen of someone else with an Ostomy, just before I stumbled on one of Eric's videos. No lurking around corners, I became a member on the spot! Lol!

With the tape you could always put in a peek-a -boo window. I think too, with the right glue & a  light weight fabric or other form of material and if  the material was the right stuff & edges did not fray that may work too. Even so they could be ironed under with stitch witchery then glued on.

how often do you go around with the bag exposed for all to see?

I can't imagine suppliers or manufacturers liking multiple color options.  every color change would mean doubling stock and production.  poorly selling colors would be loses that could drive up costs.  I don't see more colors translating to more sales.

I agree. As much as I understand the wish to jazz up an incredibly boring appliance, I think the vast majority of buyers, including myself, would opt for the incredibly boring. It is unlikely that wild colours or artwork would cause wearers to change brands - we aren’t likely to dump a brand that works well for us. So what would motivate a company to make an expensive change if they were not likely to see an increase in sales? The idea of little motivational quotes on the pouch, as someone here has suggested, might be more likely.

I have to agree with this, how many ostomates want to signal to the world look at me and my jazzy bag? IMO most don't want to be singled out in anyway.

Manufacture always try to reduce the cost think of how much thinner aluminium foils has become, food packets or tins have less contents. Reductionism is a practice of increasing profit. Question who will pay a premium for a designer ostomy bag? -(less your going to let it all out! waving in the wind- insensitive joke) if there's a bigger profit some manufacture will exploit the market otherwise you get plain vanilla IMO

My incredibly boring pouch is rather at home being incredibly  boring under my clothing. I admit it may be fun to  wear colours or design on it, but I do not typically run around with my pouch flagging in the breeze.

I do know of a swimmer who can wear it out & about, but that's not me or for me either..  lol ..kind if fun to imagine it though!! Floral, shamrocks, the Easter Bunny... snowflakes anyone? lol!!

Yes Linda it is kind of fun (there is surely a reduction in fun this year) to imagine it though!

I would however like express myself in the world in other ways when we are allowed out, Think of all the petrified people roaming about when let loose, we all going to have very very tolerant of one another when that happens!

@chrisandbagpus...so true Chris!  It's certainly been a most interesting time. Lots of thinking going on too I imagine. Lots of planning.  Lots of dreaming even. MAybe lots of changing too.  I think we as a people all need to keep in mind the adjustments are going to need patience for anyone dealing badly with the situation.

I like to believe that Knowledge is not just power but a strength within ourselves. A strength to build on for love & tolerance, kindness and patience. The amount of families that can not be by the side of loved ones has to be very painful. My  extended family member has a brain cancer recently diagnosed & is given little time.  It would be so nice to be with them during this time, supporting where need be, but they are about 4 hours from me. Covid restrictions have been unlike any most of us have ever experienced & I truly hope it never happens again.

You mentioned you wanted to express yourself in other ways when we are set loose. I would be interested to hear what they are if you would you care to share what those ways may be?  I'm sure it's not something Duct tape can help with. Anyone else want to share what changes you my make in life after covid has been squashed down?

Good points by all.  I am certainly not going to give up my favored pouch at this point for much.  Functionality comes first.  And, I do wear wraps that make it absolutely impossible for anyone to even see my pouch.  I was very concerned about this after my surgery, as I am a teacher, and reaching for things on top shelves etc. in front of my students often leads to my shirt pulling up enough for someone to see my bag (I hate tucking my shirt since I've gotten my ostomy).  But the wraps have taken care of this.  It simply looks like an undershirt.

That being said, I do wish companies at least offered black and white bags.  It doesn't have to be fancy, just something other than beige.  The beige just reminds me of that medical supply look and makes me feel like I'm putting on a large bandaid every time I change my pouch.  I think a choice of black or white could be just as neutral and boring, but not look as much like a medical appliance if by chance your bag hangs out by accident.

As far as decorating bags, I guess I was just throwing around ideas in my head.  I really can't see me spending too much time doing that.  If fact, I ordered a roll of galaxy duct tape, and it has arrived, but I have kind of lost interest right now.  I'll probably do a few just for fun.

Thanks for all of the responses!

Glenn

And, just to clarify, I'm not so much talking about making a statement with a bag, but if I am going to be doing this the rest of my life, then I wouldn't mind a little variety if for no reason other than to entertain myself.  Maybe it's just me, but I don't always buy the same exact things, even if it is the most mundane stuff.  From time to time, I buy different shampoo, different laundry detergent, different TP, I even change the color of my toothbrush from time to time.  Maybe I'm just easily entertained.
