Being a guy, the maternity pants would be a no-go for me!  However, I use ostomy wraps on a daily basis.  I have a fairly physical job, and need to keep my ostomy pouch supported and covered.  They do a great job of both.  I've heard of people using maternity bands, and even tube tops around their ostomy for the same effect.  I would definitely advise comfortable clothing for a while during recovery, sweatpants were my favorite piece of clothing for a few weeks!  

Hi Donna, Their are many options ye can go with, Mark above is spot on with the sweat pants. They will be comfortable and let you get back on yer feet. Yes the maternity pants are a favourite I here will the ladies and don,t forget a lot of the clothes you have may also be suitable. When you have the stoma you will know better what will work ie a lot will depend where the stoma is placed.

Check out Erics advice above. After surgery I bought I heap of new clothes and nothing fitted after a few months when I gained weight so bare that in mind. :-)

I went with maternity pants at first, and still use them from time-to-time. I went to a second hand shop rather than buy new and found a couple of almost new ones. It seemed strange at my age (61 years old - my "baby" is now almost 35 years old!) to be looking for maternity clothes, but I found out from the salesperson that many women buy them for the comfort level! I also wear tunics, which work well with the pants. Another clothing option, if you like to wear dresses is to have a high waisted dress with flaring on the bottom half. After you are healed, wearing pantyhose without the control top when you are wearing a dress, helps to hold your system in place.

I have a question for the women in the community:  Is it possible to make your own covers for your bags or to add a pocket, say, to a maternity belly band?

The same here. I am 63 and my son is 36 lol. Thanks for the advice. I do a lot of shopping at second hand stores as well. 

I live in legging or yoga type pants  that paired with a long loose top. I do wear the Ostomy secrect underwear with the pouch for my baggie . It gives great support and these undies are so comfortable in all cotton .

I mostly go for the skirts long to mid length-long shirt type, and plaza pants. When and a big IF I gain weight and get my thighs back, skinny jeans?  ANYONE wear skinny jeans??

I also use leggings (by Leggs) under my dresses or under a loose top. I find them very comfortable and not restrictive. Don't go with the skinny jeans by Leggs as they are quite tight - unless you plan on using them in between outputs and for a short while (as in going out to dinner or a play, etc.).  That's just my experience with them - there are probably others who might have had a better experience. Of course, I am still only six weeks out of surgery, and my body is still healing. That might have something to do with the way the skinny jeans fit. Good luck!

No these type of pants do not feel tight or smashing . Thankfully I have never had a leak yet . Knock on wood . These pants  actually feel very supportive . I wear them to the gym and feel very confident notning bad will happen . I do wear skinny jeans in the winter .

Skinny jeans were  a bad idea for me.    I had lost weight so there was room in the jeans on my tummy area. but between a bumpy road and the seat belt  it was disastrous.  I had never talked about these things before joining Erics sight.  I have had to figure things out on my own.  No computer  and no Eric. What I did not learn  I have learned here in the  past year.  Thank you all for talking about these things.  As far as leggings go,  I loved them before surgery, but after the jeans incident, I fear the end results.  I had thought maternity pants would  be a good idea but they were expensive where I live at the time.  Glad to hear they are a thing to wear for comfort also. My tops are all longer to help disguise and when and if menopause ever pauses,  I will wear longer sweaters again.  Pouch covers can be sewn yourself,  patterns are on pinterest.   You can make your own pattern also.  I have decided that I am going to get brave and put a picture up here of myself...when I figure that out.  Does anyone who is being shy want to do the same?   Put a face to our names.  I too am  just 60, been an ostimate for ten years this September coming.  Two kids, ages 33 and 35,  four grands,  and two in-laws.  How long have you all had your stomas?  Ulcerative colitis and now mal-absorption and pseudo blockages.  Rose (my stoma) was born Sept.26, 2008.  Lets hear your stoma names.  Naming her helped with acceptance and still does.  I can tell her to settle down when she gets too vocal.  It does not help.

I had given my stoma a name but I forgot it after a while 

 I think that I will call it "poopik" today. But if I forget it again,  I won't feel bad. After all, I don't give my big toe a name; it is just a small part of me. And not a separate creature. My toe could be called Paul Bunyan . But it remains anominous.

I will be celebrating my 67 th birthday soon. My wife of 44 years will try to gather my 7 kids and spouses and 23 grands to mark the passage of time. I don't think that she will be successful. 

I could go on but my eyes are closing.

Thanks Marcie.  I have been absent for a while.  A naughty  gut and many blockages. Plus my computer needed prof. help. I missed everyone.

As far as tightness in clothing, I do not enjoy pantyhose now, when I had worn them, I took the scissors to the tummy part and placed a well defined slit in them from the band to below pouch level.  It worked for a while, but the band drove me nuts.  My muscles and skin hand been moved by a surgery that required leaving the incision open to heal from the inside out. I now wear knee highs, my skirts are longer anyways, I  wear something I got in the store called pantaloons.  Snug, not tight almost like long underwear, but panty material, stops at the knee. Very comfy and cool in summer. I find they support the pouch well but are hard to find and I dislike shopping very much. Going to town tomorrow and will talk to owner of store to see if they can order in. When I am cold in winter I wear long underwear and find then very comfy even for sleeping in. I am going to try and find a good pair for leggings and give that a go for under dresses.

Zvitusk...7 kids huh? Is that all? Bless your hearts. Twenty three grands...yes you are blessed. I hope you are proud of your 44 years.  That is really a mile stone coming up. My an passed jut before our 30th. How long have you had your ostomy? What bought it on?  I named Rose because the surgeon told me to. It took about three years to settle on a name.  She was anything from Mt. Vizocvious (sp?) to an amazing gal.  I settled on Rose because she really is a beautiful thing to have.  I wish I had had the encouragement here in videos, conversation and experiences of others 11 years earlier.  I had to go alone.  Just too unwell to think.  I feel so encouraged when i listen to something something someone else or tried or experienced.  t  I had never realized just how alone I was in this journey till I found this sight.
