Last Monday, I started having some loose stool...going on 5 days now. The output is just a little at a time, but oddly my antidiahrreal meds weren't working properly. It would slow down output then eventually start up again. No output after going to bed though. I will wake up in the morning  and there would be normal stool appearing. Then, throughout the day loose stool in small amounts till late evening. I carefully continued the Meds. Yesterday, loose stool appeared light brown to yellow. It has been a bit stressful not understanding why the stool is normal early morning then reverting back to loose stool throughout the day. As of today, stool is slowly regaining it's normal color and sporadically on and off normal output seems to be coming back...with some small amount of loose stool in between. Throughout all this...I have been feeling fine otherwise. Just had complete bloodwork done as ordered by my Heart Nurse. I am okay in that department. Any ideas what has been.going? I must admit this episode did stress me out, so I am sure that didn't help!

Hi Jillian,

Sorry - I’ve been meaning to reply for awhile; just got really busy. Trying to figure out output issues can be maddening. It’s like looking for a needle in the proverbial haystack. The most obvious culprit is likely to be input - what you’re eating, so it’s important to keep a food diary for awhile to see if there’s a correlation. But sometimes the problem can be something else entirely, and for that, you’ll need to speak with your doctor.  For years, I assumed my loose output was related to my cancer treatment, but I found out 2 years ago that it was my gallbladder. Every time I ate food that was high in fat (good or bad fat - gallbladders don’t care) I would have loose output. It wasn’t until I started having gallbladder attacks that my doctor made the connection. Since my gallbladder was removed, I can process fat more easily, but I still have some problems if I don’t watch my fat intake. So, it just goes to show you that it isn’t always the most obvious suspect; it could be something else. Best to keep a food diary for awhile; it will be something your doctor will probably want to see anyway.
