When I first got this bag in 2017 I noticed that when you bought a box of bags it only came with about 7/10 bags for putting your used colostomy bag into. That steadily went down to 5/10 and early this year I opened a new box of colostomy bags to find ZERO refuse bags. I was heading out over seas and had NO refuse bags. I reached out to Coloplast urgently and they said that people weren't using the bags so they stopped including them. WHAT??? They did send me about 7 rolls of refuse bags and these are now precious to me. I asked what I was supposed to use then? My issue is that I have a colostomy so the bag can get fairly big when I have to change it. I also stand to change it. I have been struggling with doggy poop bags as they are the only thing I can find. But I absolutely cannot use them if I need an emergency change out in public. In public I need a bag to tuck into my pants to catch the colostomy bag as it detaches from my body. This is because there are ZERO places to stand at a counter to change my bag in public. The best handicap change stations for me are the ones that have a baby change station in them because I can lay all my products out. But those stations are too tall for me to stand at. I have been to grocery stores, hardware stores, dollar stores....the smallest bag I can find is HUGE for my purposes as they are meant to line small garbage cans. Where are people getting their refuse bags from??? I just use any bag to put the old ostomy bag into and tie tightly and then to the outside garbage as quick as possible. Another is using a zip lock freezer bag in which can be purchased at dollar stores cheap just to put the old bag into and zipper it shut. For changing the bag in public you can use regular grocery bags to tuck into your pants to catch the bag and catch any ouput etc... ive even had to use a large garbage bag when thsts all I had. Sometimes we have to improvise and use that resources we do have to use. I found those gray refuse bags from Coloplast were not large enough to tuck in the waist band to do a change outside of home. @chelly Unfortunately all our grocery stores just have reusable bags not plastic bags. If you have access to use amazon maybe you can order these to have around. It's a definite struggle getting things we need for these ostomy's When I first got this bag in 2017 I noticed that when you bought a box of bags it only came with about 7/10 bags for putting your used colostomy bag into. That steadily went down to 5/10 and early this year I opened a new box of colostomy bags to find ZERO refuse bags. Ain't that the truth! So frustrating, because those always came in handy, and they were more odour proof than most other bags you might have from the grocery store. Where are people getting their refuse bags from??? So... I've been using biodegradable dog poop bags. They are cheap, and they biodegrade. However... they don't hold odour in very well, so they are meant to be used and then discarded as soon as practicable. You could also use plastic dog poop bags, which should hold odours in better. There are commercial products available specifically for securing ostomy bags, like the Seal-N-Toss (manufacturer's site, and my review). For my use case, anything that is large enough to hang off my waist band while I do an appliance change is great. Some bags are too small (too narrow), but excessively large bags are just too much plastic me for! Just your friendly neighborhood ostomate. @veganostomy I agree. I tried using the compostable bags meant for use with compost buckets. Way too much plastic and it was very thin plastic that makes it deeply concerning for a complete bag change. I do use doggy poop bags at home because I have a counter I stand at. But my experience with handicap stalls in the community is that the vast majority of them have no area where I can lay out my supplies and I have to tuck a bag into my pants. The doggy poop bags are way too small for that. I just bought 100 bags off of amazon and unfortunately they crinkle so they are going to be very loud which isn't ideal at all. But they do look like they are going to be a good size. @yittleone sorry to hear they turned out to be crinkly and loud. Glad to hear they are the right size though. I usually try to find a restroom that is a single and no other stalls because I need the sink for water but I know that is not always available. I wish they would start making public restrooms ostomy friendly . We need some sort of place to lay out supplies and such . The worst is trying to reach for toilet paper from a dispenser that has that housing over it. And not to mention they are always real low. I always feel like its a struggle. But my experience with handicap stalls in the community is that the vast majority of them have no area where I can lay out my supplies That is so incredibly frustrating. I've been in some accessible washroom stalls that are massive to accommodate wheelchairs, but other nothing else to help with other needs: no hook to hang a supply bag from, no surface to do an appliance change, etc. If it was a municipal washroom, do let that municipality know! You could let a business know about the state of their washrooms, but I don't think they'd be as motivated to take feedback. I have to tuck a bag into my pants. The doggy poop bags are way too small for that. I've posted this in a different thread, but I wear a (no longer available) accessory that acts as a pocket I can hang my bag into, and that just hangs on the waistband (or belt) quite securely. When I do an appliance change, I'll stuff a dog poop bag in it as if it's a mini waste bin, and it's worked great for several years! Something like that can easily be made, and would be highly portable since it's just fabric with clips. Here is the thread with photos of what I'm talking about. Just your friendly neighborhood ostomate. @veganostomy thanks for the pictures! I actually sewed two belt-like things to hold my bag up against my body. I wear my colostomy bag sideways so those belts are imperative. I could source out the notions (that's what the clips are) and sew something similar. But this is yet ANOTHER thing I need to carry with me. I could source out the notions (that's what the clips are) and sew something similar. I've found those listed under "webbing ending clips", and have a link for Amazon in that other thread. But this is yet ANOTHER thing I need to carry with me. Yup, but thankfully, this is very small/light. The material on mine is denim, but if you're making it for the purpose of simply holding the dog poop bag, you could use much lighter material! Just your friendly neighborhood ostomate.
