I thought nothing went through with a blockage. But come to think of it, Stella was asleep for a couple of days.

Severe rheumatoid arthritis, spondoloarthropy, polymyalgia rhumatica, type 1 diabetic, IBS and finally, emergency diverticulitis surgery, colon removed Stella born Jan. 27, 2017. 6 bouts of c-diff, failed fecal transplant. Complete colonectomy and ileostomy July 30, 2018. ENOUGH!!

Those matts from the hospital?  I have a mattress cover, then I out the matt on top then the sheet.... works great!!  I used to just have the matt under me-- that didn't work out so well.  I took a few matts from the hospital-heck! I paied for them!! -  rolled them up in my back pack that I take with me when I go to hospital.. And home ward I went.  We even bought our own wheel chair-not very comfortable, cheep, but as many times I have spent waiting, like for ever- ( 1 time and hour) to have some take me down to the car-decided to avoid that mess.  They don't get the wheel chair until your ride is up IN YOUR ROOM.. THEN the fun begins.. No one has patients of waiting, mostly me when I know that I am going home.. But the wheel chair was a help when I had to go and get my staples out (25) after my Gull Bladded surgery- thank God for that!! IT was  1/4 mile walk to the Dr. office at the hospital..  I could not have handled that either.. Seriously, when they make the apt. for such, they never tell you the distance-just park n the garage, and take a left when u come through those doors______.  So now we are ready for just about anything that come our way.. I think that I have it all covered by now.

OHHHHHHHH YA! it comes through with a blockage, BUT, remember-if in major long time pain? go to the E.R !!!! A larger hospital or where u had your surgery, is best to handle these.  Small hospitals, I had to bring in my own directions and they copied them.. You will be brought right up to the proper floor-just say stoma, blockage.. They can ease the pain with drugs, take tests if needed, and they do the work and the worring for you.. Some surgeries may  have to be performed-but I haven't met up with anyone on that one..  But my Dr. and stoma nurse were rather point blank about it.. A blockage needs attention-home care I do first. Sometimes when I am changing and my Nelkie start exploding, I just out the old pouch back on and  hold it there until she is done..  better than wiping the stoma area all the time which make it sore.. Then u have another problem.... AH the golden years, the only thing golden about it is my pee.

Raw veggies block me up something awful -- and the pain?  Oh, WOW!  Hurts like the dickens.  I throw up, don't sleep, and have a super miserable time until the blockage passes.  I have learned NO RAW VEGGIES for me - EVER!!!!  Husband and I were gnawing on carrots, cauliflower, broccoli, cheese, sausage and crackers one evening during a football game on TV.  That night, I got so sick, it was awful.  We determined it wasn't the cheese, sausage and crackers -- it was the veggies.  Now, I eat my veggies COOKED.  I eat all kinds of veggies - but they have to be cooked - not steamed - but cooked all the way through so they're soft.  No sense in taking me to the hospital.  I just have to drink water, water, water, suffer and let it pass.  My lower abdomen is quite sore for a couple days afterwards, so I don't eat until I feel better.  Lesson learned.

Oh, forgot to tell you that I sleep on a waterproof pad - it's a twin-size pad, so I fold the long ends over so I'm the only one sleeping on it.  Several times, it has saved my husband and I from having to change the bedding.  I call it my "poop pad" because that's why I use it.  Think it was about $20 or so.  Money well spent.  Go on-line and check them out or look for them at your favorite store.

That is the first thing Doctors and stoma nurses tell u NO RAW VEG'S!!!!!!!!!  And give u a little bit of info. to bring home..  Didn't yours do that?  You r so lucky that u didn't do harm to you self..  IF ever anyone gets to the point of cramps, ALONG with vomiting, or even sick to your tummy-dizzy, go the the E.R. a.s.a.p. I am so happy that you surived that.. My friend ate an Easter egg filled with coconut -a nice size one-(and yes, she knew better) but it was such a treat for her-  She had a time like you did..  Said that it was very scary for her.. If I eat to much at one time, (which I do always) and really-we should NOT eat a lot at one time-  I walk it, change the bed sheets, dust, do something to get things going and then I make progress in the house..  If I sit on it, can be trouble.. If ever again, as it may, as we all go through this, Grape juice-NOT grape fruit juice---little at a time- is good, hot bath, walking it, and tender rubbing of the areas that feel HARD.. AND- get ready for a change and an explosion!! Lots of tissues-- Don't over drink at once, I did coffee as that goes right through me-- 1/2 cup at a time.. Horrible experience huh?  Well, you joined that club of ours too!! Welcome???  Live and learn huh?  Nice hearing from u... where r u from?  Me? usa. ct.

Linda, how r u doing now ? I hope we are helping you with this (stoma/acceptance of surgery) .......  Feeling a bit better with us and yourself?  IT has been 3 years for me and this has helped me so much..  But I do have a great support group with speakers, and open meetings and have a great time- always a cake or much goodies too.. But, some nights I am just to tired to go.. After some of my infusions of fluids, I get tired. and going on 68, night driving gets to me.. But it is one of the support groups around, some people come from miles away to get ideas to start their own groups that are closer the them.. I come up with many ideas, and talk with the president (which is a doll-and my home visitor)-(and now good friend) .. So we all get along well.  I have been doing baby steps like going out for lunch with people that understand-the best they can-but I also meet up a member of the support group and hopefuls get to go to outings with them on day trips.. They only thing to avoid is coffee!!  That just adds on more bathroom trips and leaks s I am sitting in the car..  IF u look back I have posted a travel port-a-john for the car.. Did u see it?  want it again?

Today is going to be such a nice day-again- here in Ct. usa-then a storm from the west-and a tropical system up the east coast joins that also-So Sunday is a wash out including Monday- But we have had above normal weather this October.... Going to have my son get up my winter clothes and work on the "change" in my closet Sunday.. May take a week-but got to get at it.. My Best. M.

Yes, but I am also menapausal, or however you spell it...so swet is a yes.  I have towels that I put down under me and it does allow for the skin to breathe.   I get them at the second hand store, bleach the life out of them and then give a really good fresh wash free of bleach scent and use them or as I refer to them as dog towels.  Ladies, I also keep extra shirts handy at night for damp situations with menopause and extra towels.  The less I am moving around at night the more sleep I get and for me that is always a surprise when I wake up later after falling asleep without knowing it.  Insomniac 101!

Nebraska, here, Marcie.  Originally from the East Coast.  Was never told about raw veggies.  I eat raw fruits - apples, oranges, plums, bananas, grapes, etc. - and have no problem at all.  Body loves bananas, so we haul them home by the truckload (almost!).  Rosebud turns 5 on April 2, 2018, and I'm still learning about her.  I know my love of meat has almost vanished.  I can go days and days without eating meat, so I have to get my protein from other sources.  Good thing I love beans and chili!!!

When I have an "episode", I learn a little more.  Every "episode" has taught me a very valuable lesson and I pass my lessons along in the hopes that it will prevent someone else from suffering through a long, miserable night.

Hello  mykirbyroo.....if your blocked to the point of puking and  pain and  knowing your blocked, the safest route is to emerge in the back of an ambulance.  Ofcourse if your older like yours truly here...me...they want to make you eat aspirin first...protecting there kirbyroos!.  If you  have a blockage that erupts inside of you you could need emergent surgery,  I have been there, not fun, and so glad I was in hospital for a quick diagnoses and then another surgery done with.  We stoma'ites need each other, so do not go through that at home, plus they have better drugs at the hospital...depending on your doctor I guess.  Are we allowed to say where we are from on here?  I honestly do not care if someone stumbles on here and finds out I have a stoma that is why I wonder where we are all from.  Also,  maybe some of us could meet up for coffee somewhere down the line.  Anyways, we do not mess with blockages as they can be very severe.

Menapausal???? Some nights I woke up like I went swimming-- for many years. Had to change the sheets with that too!! blow dry my hair--  After I got so sick 3 years ago, (age-64) I lost that "loving feeling" Seems to me when it gets cold out, I do the sweating.. Which adds to more ** dehydration!!!!!!! _*keep a check on that one ladies!!** Being so thin now? -I was never fat-but now? Stick and Stones wont break my bones.. I hope- I just get so COLD!!!!!!!! Then sweat,=very cold-freezing! during the winter months.. It is 59 degrees outside, and Tom has the sliding glass door open next to him.. And wonders why I don't want to make dinner-its so COLD out there!! Maybe he is getting/has permeant hot flashes ... ;-)  :-)??????? Shall see, If I find a shinny little sports care in the garage....... :>)

When I gave my free time at a nursing home, The woman in their 80-90's, told me that they still get the hot flashes!!!!!! As I was complaining about mine.. I'm  like" oh-NOOOOOOOOO!!! But I think that my many illness screwed everything up on that department. Being a woman is NOT fun at time huh?  Then when we r all done with the change, our bodies changes for the worst!!! YUK!! Always a change huh? but we don't have control over either of them including the change on/for this blog.. What's that song? change, change, change????? ___________________? :-)

Nebraska huh?  God old farming country- How long have u lived there? Where from the East coast? And what is your name ? besides your now I.D.?  Where is your pretty picture?  YEs, I do like the fresh smell of a bit of bleach- I am now turning my sheets color to a brown-dark tan as I have bleached holes into my white sheets.  I buy cheep sheets (king) at discount stores.. I change my pillow cases every other day for a fresh start-as I know that I will be changing the whole darn thing sooner that I planed..  But I am learning what will get me into a leak at night-FLUIDS and I need them-but? IF it happens? it happens!! I am retired from the Dental profession.. So I don't have to go to work early-and get back to sleep--except the 3 days I have infusions for extra fluids.. But I have it down pat of the changes - First-I turn on the extra heater in the bathroom then, I get myself showered, (I have a shower handle that I can take off, so I don't have to get my hair wet. (I have a shower cap on too) soak my nightie and other washcloths (stains)that I have to use for the washing for the morning- change the bed-(got to move the cat first) climb back in--Sometimes I just go and have a cig. outside before-(never smoke in the house and no one ever sees me smoke) -depending on the mess- then I hit it! Takes about an hour for all to get done properly.. I am looking for a winter material type of house coat with sippers or snaps so all I have to do is step out of night clothes.  NO OVER THE HEAD STUFF OR IT WILL GET INTO MY HAIR - So far nothing but summer stuff- I guess I better start to learn how to sew these-I will use a holey bleached sheets for pre-attempts. Zippers were never my strong point... What a learning process with being an Ostomate  Huh? But I do find that stepping OUT of a night wear is so much easier....  No more pretty nighties..... Works for me and maybe you all can find this easier/faster too.. :+)

You do peal the apple first tho right?  That is a must!!  Grapes I eat-not a lot at a time- The vegies? I/Tom-he makes a great healthy veg/beef soup-that way u get the vitamins etc. into u..

I make a good broccoli soup-with cut up ham, onions, milk butter-flour-LOT BROCCOLI nice and thick and NOT kind to our active stomas, but having some bread with it helps.. Would love to make some onion soup-but that will go right through us for sure!! I miss so much of these fat foods.. Not good for the heart either-but I DID eat these maybe once a year. A TREAT TO ME.. But I am not ready to eat just plants--  hey there Eric. :>)
