Went to take some garbage out and very hot out today. Just staying in cruising in the apartment.. I think I'm ready for autumn myself like someone else mentioned here. Not the rain but the little bit of cooler weather. Gorgeous day today! Went to my doc appt and my stoma nurse today . Hour drive there . Much cooler but not cold. Blue skies and beautiful, gorgeous white clouds everywhere. In some spots they looked like snow mountains. I was looking at them all the way home. @chelly that sounds beautiful! I hope it was a good appt. and you are figuring out supplies and what works for you. I have just spent a week indoors recovering from a much overdue, both sides, sinus surgery. I've just layed low & am letting my grands and my son spoil me a little! Lol! Its been around 35-40°c most of the week here and stuffy! Gwens been my ray of 🌞 sunshine with her little pop upstairs visits! I've mostly been catching up on my Art lessons. I've been learning to draw & its so fun. If anyone of you are interested I follow on Instagram, fb and some I think some are on threads. But the three I'm learning from the most are...@ markkistlerlive , @Iamshaneburke and @ markliamsmith. I had no clue what would come out of my pencils if I gave this a try but I think I'm surprising myself in the cartoon dept. a little, with Mark Kistler. He did Art for created "Imagination Station" and, his Art was on several other T.V. and Movie shows, recently winning a Golden Globe Award and a Films awards. He has recently done shared, live video, with Bill (William) Foster, from NASA, ISS, Human Spaceflight Ground Control Officer. I am still star struck! Lolol! We drew the Cupola from the ISS ! You can still view the videos for free on FB. He also had Joel Gori and Dan Fraga from BATMAN & he also made the most return guest spots on Imagination Station too. All three of these men are responsible for some Art and or acting on the shows and Bill Foster did Art for a NASA coin/token as well as sleeve badges, mouse pads & so forth. He shows them on the live video. Sooooo... If your even a little interested, check out Mark Kistlers site/sites & maybe do some "pencil pushing" yourself, its kind of addicting! In June, when Gwen and I started our 1st live plant aquarium, It started off a time of "busy!" If you've ever considered do this, GO FOR IT! BUT You'll need 6 or 7 weeks so hlget your, water ready. Ill tell you! BETWEEN the veggie garden, Art lessons & the live aquarium with tigertail guppies and 2 glo-fish and 2 snails, our window cleaners, my brain feels so full! Lol! I also now know more about snails then I ever wanted or needed to, but they are so intertesting! I hope you are all well! Linda Weather is finally starting to change , a little cooler 18C ,and some rain , Joints are really painful at the moment so heading to the doc tomorrow to get a referral back to the rheumatologist, Bloods came back from a previous visit and all good and my BP is finally coming down , Hope everyone is doing well ,even a little bit helps a lot . Another beautiful day here, cooler but sunny. I spent most of it sleeping and listening to my body. @ Linda, I'm using correct supplies but what happened to my stoma and peristomal area is the issue. Imagine a donut laying on a table , then imagine a stoma laying on the table right in the middle of that donut. So this is what I'm dealing with is a wall all around it. It's very challenging getting a pouch on correctly but I'm.doing the best I can. Going to be going to see my original colorectal surgeon about it here in a few days to see if him and my surgeon can go into surgery with me together to fix this mess. There's mesh in there so this is what the issue is trying to get it right. I will have to check out this Mark Kistlers site to see if it sparks my interest, so will do. @ Tony, sorry to hear your joints are acing up lately probably the weather change triggering it. I hope you can get some relief from the Rheumatology appointment. Mine have been acting out as well. @tony-h ... yeah, the weather changes never seem to be a comfortable thing anymore and they sure don't make me want to go skiing in winter! Lol! The last 18 or so years I can predict a weather change sometimes up to 3 days in advance and depending on the severity of it, the pains either settle and slip into a more calm fashion or they stay to worsen for the next round & add to that the joint pains & swelling in my knuckles, which especially seem to be almost continual now... yikes, winters coming! Sometimes I wish I could go and hide from it as easy as it is to hide from Gwen when we play hide-n-seek!!!! Lol! Chelly... I don't envy you that stoma or the troubles it can bring. I know you've had a very hard time just like Lizaandsqueaky had/have at finding what works for you bcuz of it. Somehow my surgeon blessed me with this floppy little dudette I call "Rose," and I've always appreciated her. She has brought me so much relief from horrid gut pain... ugh! You all know what I mean! I WISH for you the answers and changes that YOU need to live a better quality of life with your stoma! Here's hoping this appt. Will bring the changes you so obviously, by the pics, need from your hooded little buddy in hiding, or your little criminal!! Lol. I know at one point I tried a Coloplast pouch that had very similar material to the wafer as these soft flexible, C-shaped extending tapes I wear and I wish I could help you in this matter but truth be told, I have worn only 3 different pouch numbers with my since I was gifted her. Those changes were only bcuz of the quality of the plastic issues during and sometimes still that came with covid or just before, when the same higher quality plastics were used, just were not available to the manufacturer. And they denied it all the way right up until a very honest employee told me what was really going on, saying "we had a right to know!!" So... hard to believe school starts already on Tuesday! I'm going to miss that little girl who seems have filled my days so full I've hardly had time to breathe! Shes been so much fun and so full of questions and fortunately I haven't shied away from one of them. At five she knows more about baking, laundry, gardening, fresh water fish and water care and the plants, underwater snails who've had their own babies, 11 last count and daily, she even understands about the whys and hows of even stomas then your average kiddo! I was thinking yesterday how we rarely turned the TV on or played on the computer/ cell phone. She had a summer full of my own take on schooling and after a visit with a friend the other day, I'm confident she's going to be so bored in school! Lol! He is an Enginear and proceeded to cover the time of our visit amused by and interviewing Gwen who never once shied away from answering his questions and if she didn't know the answer she simply said, "I haven't learned that yet!" This little person caught on to learning thru life experience and I think we both had a lot of it this Summer. At any rate I suppose I'll have more time for cleaning and learning myself. I'd still like to see about this sour dough starter or naturally leavened dough bread baking! Breads are the one thing I eat so little of due to blowing my guts up like a helium filled balloon. I did notice after a sourdough bread sandwich this summer that for the first time in years I never bloatedxafter eating bread. Sourdough was my hubbies thing as I just always avoided breads bcuz of bloating & the pain that bloating provided. Do any of you do sourdough starter and bread at all or notice bloating after eatung breads?? The weather here has been a bit cooler but not by much. I guess this is why the stone fruit trees and grapes are in an abundance! Garden stands pop open everywhere here in spring to fall. I LOVE , driving by and visiting the farmers gardens and buying straight from them. We can load up on squash if we didn't grow enough and eat off it much cheaper then from in the stores all winter. Supporting our local farmers has been important to me. I like to tell people who say they can't stand squash that it's bcuz it's been cooked to a mush and no one I know likes mush!! Try cooking it to just a bit beyond fork tender cut into about 1 inch pieces and add some herbs or spices to it. Though I find the ones I enjoy the most all have great flavours to them. Hubbard squash, that big green one, butternut kind of long round ended wuth one end looking like a light bulb, then also a newer variety honeynut, they all have a sweet side to them, Acorn Squash kind of a deep ridge dark green, kind of heart shaped squash adds an Interesting nutty flare all its own. You can boil, broil, bake or zap it. While listening to Gwen tell her big sister yesterday, that "I even like squash now" made me chuckle. Big Sis had been at her Dads, not Gwens, for the summer and she came home to a little sister that's grown talker, and taller about everything she did and learned with Munga! I couldn't hide the pride & joy I felt at that moment!! With working parents, a working big brother, big sister autistically unable to be responsible enough for herself, let alone a busy inquisitive child, I was the baby sitter but I certainly wouldn't have changed it for anything in the world!! When I needed a break or a rest, we just came here to bed and spent time keeping up on reading writing and some, hmmm, not math, but mostly "money skills and money talk. We played with coins, and paper bills and did some giving and some taking, as to Gwen, math seems overwhelming. Little did she know! She also started a piggy bank made by Crayola crayons an elderly neighbour found in a thrift shop and gave to Gwen. It even has a little saddle bag built into the ceramics to hold the crayons with a crayola table & price tap into the glaze at $28.00 b9ught for $2.00. The glaze makes it possible to colour on the pig time & again! Honestly, I'm not sure who had more fun or learned the most this summer! Lolol! I hope you are all as well as can be and living your best life! Linda Much cooler in the last several days, and lovely for sleeping at night. We are still at the cottage on Lake Huron, and this weekend was the last hurrah of summer for a lot of people, so it was a busy, noisy weekend. But it suddenly got pretty quiet after supper, so we walked to the ice cream shop, which normally would be full of tourists, and there was no line up, all the benches in the park were empty, and no traffic on the street. It’s like a line has been drawn on the calendar. I’ve been busy making jam this week - peach and mango - my favourite. I am teaching a workshop for my guild this week on making felt mittens. The demonstration I did in the spring on tablet weaving was something I had to work hard to master, but felting is my thing. We have a lot of fun at these workshops and I love the people in my guild. Most of us are middle aged, but we are seeing a lot of younger people interested in fibre arts lately. A young man joined us last year who is determined to make his own kilt from scratch - spinning the wool into yarn, dyeing it, and then weaving it into cloth. I think most of us in the guild did a project like that at one time or another; you come away with a sense of how long it once took to make clothes, and how hard life must have been for our ancestors. Linda, it sounds like you and Gwen are two peas in a pod. I think you both had a really good summer. It is absolutely delightful to hear how much you’re enjoying your time with her. Laurie Just a semicolon Good Morning everybody Been a lot going on lately . Been spending some time at the Lake (Lake Hemet) bout an hour away but on average 20 - 25 degrees cooler than here . Actually got some rain here at home yesterday but only in the morning . But really humid with high dewpoints lately . Today high 104 F and low 79 F . Last week we got up to 115 F but lower humidity . Came home Sunday to find air conditioner not working like it should still waiting for repairman . Cooler temps hopefully in about a month . Life in the Desert Lol . Our good time of year is coming . Stay cool everybody and have a Great Day . Robert Proctectomy , Ileostomy , Ulcerative Colitis Weather cooling down but still fairly nice weather , 18C with lots of sunshine ,just sat and watched the sun go down and listened to music , Heading to Portugal Monday for a few days ,hopefully no problems at either end of the flight , hope everyone feels even a little better . @tony-h You should have warmer temperatures and lots of sunshine in Portugal. Hope you have a lovely vacation - you and your bride could use some pampering, after all you’ve been through lately. Enjoy! Laurie Just a semicolon @njewell1 I had to look up Lake Hemet on a map. It’s nice that you can go to a cooler place when the weather is so hot; hopefully it doesn’t take you too long to get there. It looks like it would also be pretty quiet there, compared to all the cities along the coast. One of the things I like about this site is hearing about where everyone lives. Maybe you could tell us more about Lake Hemet and why it is special to you (other than the cooler temperatures). I hope you were able to get your AC fixed; it never fails that if it’s going to break down, it will happen in a heat wave. Laurie Just a semicolon It has been 100 every day this week. Next week is supposed to be cooler though. -Liza @tigerlily Hi Laurie . Lake Hemet is 1 hour away for us . Its nothing fancy but we have quite a few friends who also camp up there for the summer . Just nice to hang out with friends maybe have a a couple Beers and we generally smoke some meat and have like pot lucks . Ride our bycycles and just sit around and talk . It all comes out to a good time . Still dont have a/c fixed it works but not properly . If you look on the map we are in Indio . Not to many people know that name but we are a few miles from Palm Springs that's a better known name . This is our hot time of year but only for about 3 months then the rest of the year is comfortable . Not sure where you are but stay cool or warm Lol whatever the case may be . Thanks for your reply Proctectomy , Ileostomy , Ulcerative Colitis Rain today, off and on. Temps are below 10c in the morning, then get up to around 20c by the afternoon, but only for a few hours. Apparently, British Columbia is having record 40c temps 😱 Just your friendly neighborhood ostomate. Upper 60-70's and sunny. Beautiful weather..not hot, not cold but need to bring a sweater or jacket if your going out just in case. Perfect!!
