Hi All, This morning in the post I received a letter from my Doctor, it appears that all Heath Centres in N.I been asked if they have any patients with a history of IBD and if so would they like be will to take part in a study to better understand IBD. The purpose is to try and identify the changes in genetic code and biological material causing IBD. It will consist of a life style study, blood sample, clinical assessment as well as looking back through medical notes and keeping check on any medical appointments for the next 5 years. The study is voluntary and all information private. Am going to take part in this as I am really glad to see more being done and the tests and results will be used to help others.

Mornin John,

Its really great that you will be taking part in what looks like a large study of IBD and it's underlying causes and treatments.

It is also very generous of you as I know we all get kind of gun shy after going through this process. You will have much to add to the study since you have a long history with and managing this disease.

Good job... or well done, you!

John,

I consider you a very noble person for participating in this study. May it bring doctors a few steps closer to finding a cure for this disease! God bless.

John,

What  great opportunity for you. My hubby was on a trial drug for pancreatic cancer. They stopped the study for reasons we will never know.  I admired him for taking part and encouraged him as I will encourage you too.  There was lots of paper work involved and it lengthened our already long day to a much longer one. But they did find they could not keep on with that type of a drug. It is because of like people that we are where we are today in medical knowledge.

Make sure and keep copies of everything you fill out. Every prescription and all the results you can get  hold of.  There may be a book in it for you some day!

My husband was reimbursed for mileage  in the car as part of the study.  All meds  were free related to it also. Keep your receipts.  I admire you for doing this as you are doing it for all of us. We know that Universities and Colleges share all impertinent information.   So, ahead of time, Thank you so much for being a willing participant.  Keep us up on what you are doing in this study, I know I am sure interested.

Linda

Hi Folks, Have responded to the letter about the research, what happens next is they are going to arrange a suitable venue where any one taking part can meet and get the trails started. It sounds like it will take place some time in September. Its great to see IBD being taken seriously. Many thanks for yer support folks. :-)

It's great that you're doing that, John! We have similar research going on in Canada, and the larger the pool of data they have to work with, the better!

Hi Folks, Yesterday I had a visit from a member of the team carrying out this research. It was really handy as the girl came to see me at home. She is a stoma nurse and over a cup of coffee although a lot of questions where being asked the time flew.
