My dear friend Stan Baker wrote the following list to have on hand in case of emergency.

DO NOT REMOVE MY OSTOMY DEVICE unless it is damaged or you are instructed to remove it. In my emergency supply bag , you will find the supplies that I have found work for me. they are made by ConvaTec .

A. ActiveLife CONVEX pouch /  flange #175778

B. Eakin Cohesive seal - (slim - 839005) or (reg.- 839002)

C. Diamond Gelling Odor control sachets

D. barrier wipe

E. a bag for disposal of used device

Have everything ready PRIOR to removing the Ostomy appliance.

1.  peel the device from the Skin very slowly and very carefully. save the device clamp.

2.  place device into a disposal bag.

3.  clean any stool or drainage from around the stoma. USE CLEAN WATER ONLY. do not use soap or any oil based cleaner or any alcohol based cleaner. put soiled materials into disposal bag. if an error was made and an oil based cleaner was used, you must clean it off. the new device will not stick to oil.

4.  make sure that the area around the stoma is perfectly dry before applying the device.

5.  remove the backing material from the device , leaving the side tabs.

6.  center the seal on the opening of the device.

7.  apply the barrier wipe around the stoma site. Fan to dry.

8.  center the opening of the device onto the stoma.

9.  apply light pressure on the device to help seal it to the skin.

10. clamp the pouch clip on to the pouch.

11. remove the side tabs.

12. dispose of all the trash and used materials in the disposal bag and place in the trash.

These instructions are for Stan's supplies. I use a two piece device and have somewhat different instructions for my EMERGENCY SUPPLY Bag.

Please God, we should never have to use these instructions in an emergency. We know that Manure Happens and he who fails to plan , plans to fail.

I like this, folk who need certain medication or are allergic to some meds will carry some form of notice so why not an ostomate. Only Card I carry is an Organ Donor Card. Would be a great idea to print out and have in a wallet or purse.

I woke up this morning and opened to Google news. There, in front of my eyes , was the article that i sent to Eric last evening .

Wow! I thought that i was just sharing with my friends and here my thoughts were distributed to the entire universe!  Wow, double wow.

Hopefully,  y'all benefited from my friend Stan Baker's idea, and just like John68, will write up a set of emergency instructions,  that should never, ever have to be used.
