I just had another major blow to the gut. I was scheduled to have a Remicade infusion on Wednesday morning. It would have been the first in the regular treatments with Remicade. I had finished the starter doses. I called my rheumatologist to make sure that it was going to happen and he said no. This is just horrible for me I want this RA under control so bad and it's just not happening.  Every time I start to get up to speed on something it gets jerked out from under me and I have to start all over with another 6 months of trial. The Remicade was supposed to put it into remission. And I would have been done with the pain and the wearing of my joints and the worries about the other parts of my body that are being affected by this lousy disease.  Aaaaarrrrrgggggghhhhh. This setback really has me down.  I have reached the end of my rope and there isn't enough left to tie a knot to hang onto.

I am really sorry to hear that! Did the doctor say why? Did the starter dose help? I know you get them frequently at first and then go to a more monthly or semi monthly infusion.

Are they starting you on a new drug? Sometimes if on doesn't work, they start another one.

I had remicaide at first for my UC... for about a year , I guess. It didn't really help me and they moved on to another one. It is dispiriting!  There were people at the infusion place getting it for RA. But there must be other drugs if this one isn't working.  Is that the reason? I think also, if you get a low white blood count they stop with some of the immune suppressants. Someone on this forum is bound to know more.

Keep after them to explain why and what  comes next.

Barb, Did u ask the Dr. why?  do u sit well with his/her answer?  You know your body, and you know what u want to try out.. You also know the medications etc.  Are u in ANY part OF their (Dr) plans? YOUR ARE to be a team- Dr. and Patient!!  What is good for one is not all that good for another patient. You have fight In you--if u give up now? well, I think that you have gone around this court before........ 

Nellie gave me a very hard time yesterday-- Had a blockage-- Worked with her all day long--Thought it was over with-- PAINFUL!!!! Went to infusion today- and again the pain there.. Went to E.R.  afterwards...... I made a great team-- 2 doctors, 3 nurses and me-- (I brought with me directions on how to deal with such a thing and they were very pleased) Small hospital on the mountain Near infusion) (everyone was interested in this)- One Dr. was my upper G.I. IT was Very painful----but I gave birth to twins.. Running clear now-- Drove home for my  wedding anniversary (today) and toasted this with grape juice.. I have to walk around a bit and roll from side to side--if it happens again I was told to call ambulance and go to Hartford H.  Like I told Barb. to do---tell them stoma/blockage-and I am in Bliss 8 ward within 15 minutes.. And not a happy camper if I have to go there again.. then I will have to spend the night! -- Doing rather well for now-- 

     Happy wedding anniversary to me........ Another day we can do something.. :+) 

Hope all works out for u Barbara, How about M.M?  lady at infusion is on that for her bad R.A. and she is feeling rather great.. Ditched the meds-She takes it in an oil base. Doesn't get high either.. Talk/w your Dr. I never got into drugs like that, but from I hear and read, with all the pains this causes,(ra-cancer etc) and If I ever get this real bad-I would go for something more natural than the heavy meds.  But that is me.. Getting quite an education on these meds on this blog.. So much to learn.. scary!! Give them a call Tuesday and have a pow pow--get your answers.. I hope your not a ginnie pig for them. got to go for a few minute walk again..  Best to you. M.
