@sasquatch

hey Sasquash, hope this msg finds you well,

After colo-rectal cancer, and going through ileostomy, reversal, not working j-pouch and finally harman’s procesure, I was left with a rectal stump.

I was told the stump  would stop secreting this nasty, smelly fluid after a few months or a year perhaps. It has not after 4 years. So the doctor offered me to have the stump excised, and it appears the conditions are okay to do it from behind, without to have to open me up.
So I wanted to ask you, if you don’t mind, how did they do the surgery on you, was it from behind or they had to open you up? And how was the healing?

my main fear is the erectile distinction risk; and right now assessing that risk Vs living with this output ( did I mention that my sphincter don’t work and out out just comes out when it wants, and sometimes it shows through my underwater despite wearing cotton protection)

Thanks for your input.

cheers and stay healthy

Tony

Hi Tony.  My surgeon addressed the risk of sexual disfunction after surgery, and I was concerned.  He was very careful in the removal of the rectum, and told me that he located all important organs like the seminal vesicles before removing anything and was careful to avoid theses areas during surgery.  I'm about 18 months post-op from a total proctocollectomy, and I have absolutely no problems.  It's something you'll probably want to discuss in detail with your surgeon so that you can feel better about what he will do and what the risks are.  Best wishes with your surgery!
