I remember the first time removing my appliance - it was actually a few weeks before having surgery with a sample I got from my stoma nurse. My god did it ever stick like CRAZY! It took me quite a while to remove it and a significant amount of effort (and I think rubbing alcohol). It wasn't until I discovered adhesive remover products (especially the sprays) that I could remove my appliance without losing skin and hair in the process! If you have a hard time removing your wafer, wafer extenders, medical tape, etc., then request a sample of adhesive remover from your favorite brand. Just your friendly neighborhood ostomate. I use Sensi-Care spray as allot folks probably do... works as well as any other brand I have tried. I usually use Sensi-Care wipes as well to clean up everything and prep for my next application. I never had the experience you went through, thanks to you! But, learned that I can't live without a Spray adhesive remover and/or wipes to do a quick and clean change of the appliance. T11/12 Paraplegic / Colostomate Sensi-Care is a popular brand, but not available everywhere. I use Niltac (which is Sensi-Care under a different name) and it is very good. Most of these sprays will be quite similar, but I've found a difference in a few wipes, not only in the wetness of the wipe, but also the size and the amount of residue they leave on the skin. Just your friendly neighborhood ostomate. I have also found the difference in wipes in the amount of fluid, and residue left behind. If I remember correctly the Brava and Sensi-Care were the wettest compared to the Convatec brand that were almost dry! I use the Skin-Tac wipes for the Flexima base plate as I noticed it really helped in reducing wrinkles on top. I also put my base plate and ring in a Ziplock bag and run near hot water on them for a few minutes to get them nice and plyable, which really reduces any wrinkles as well.... funny the little secrets we find to get that perfect fit!! ...and with this technique I'm getting 10+ days wear time!! T11/12 Paraplegic / Colostomate I just reordered coloplast spray it works very well. Haven't tried sensi care spray, it's just more expensive is the only reason. I do use their wipes when needed but mainly use the spray for removal. I just reordered coloplast spray it works very well. I've tried the Coloplast spray adhesive remover, and found it worked about the same as most the others.. my supplier does not carry it, so I have no way to confirm price differences. I also buy the large spray can (5 oz instead of 1.7 oz) which made the price allot cheaper per oz due to size. ...and lasts forever, or so it seems. The Coloplast spray is very similar to the Sensi-Care spray - get whichever one you can find ;) Just your friendly neighborhood ostomate. I love the smell of that one! But it's not something I can buy in Canada 😞 I was given a sample for my review, but that was it. Just your friendly neighborhood ostomate. I've never used an adhesive remover. I feel like things stick well enough but when it comes time to remove them, they come right off. I don't notice anything really left behind either... like maybe a little tackiness here or there, but a quick rub with my finger and it comes right off. Sometimes I wish the appliance would stick better right at the stoma as it usually peels up slightly and I have to be careful to clean so stool doesn't get stuck under there. It seems odd to me that people would have to use removers. I wonder if I'm so odd in not needing them? I've never used an adhesive remover. I have use a remover or my appliance would peel my skin off, or hurt pretty bad getting it off... it sticks very well. With a ring a have no stool ever under the barrier. Maybe something to just try and see if you get a better working system(?). T11/12 Paraplegic / Colostomate Are you using "regular wear wafers"? Those come off cleanly for me, but extended wear often stick too well. The brand also makes a huge difference. Also, keep in mind that some people are using adhesive removers to remove wafer extenders (which tend to leave residue). Until my insurance stops covering it, I'll use it for all the things! No, I am using the Hollister CeraPlus (extended wear) Barrier. All the wafers I've tried have been extended wear. I've only used the Hollister brand because I did not like the samples I received of the other brands wafers or bags. I also have no idea what a wafer extender is, or what circumstances would warrant using such an item. I assume to extend wear, but why not use an extended wear wafer in the first place? Sorry for the ignorance but I've only had my ostomy for about six months. I just sorta muddle along with my limited knowledge. Luckily nothing horrible has come up. I also have no idea what a wafer extender is, or what circumstances would warrant using such an item. I get to teach you something new today =) Check this out: https://www.veganostomy.ca/guide-to-ostomy-wafer-extenders/ Just your friendly neighborhood ostomate. I was looking at ordering that spray in my next order I love mint smell ❤❤ @smashy1966 uses the Oakmed Microskin Uro bags and the Coloplast Brava spray. As a typical gent he has a hairy tummy but found his skin too sensitive to shave, without the Brava the bags would pull all the hair, and probably the skin, off his tummy, so they're worth their weight in gold! Life's too short, sit in the sun, drink the wine, hug peeps and smile
