@veganostomy May I know where can I get the Trio Pearls in Toronto. My supplier only carry that diamond one (TR105). I hesitate to buy because I worry the color (black) may mislead me.  Thanks in advance.

Trio is hard to get in Canada, but there are other alternatives like THIS.

The Diamond sachets are quite good, and the black color is charcoal, which can help reduce odors. The color is quite noticeable in your output, so if that causes concern then go with a clear product.

Hi Ruth,

I'm sorry to hear that you're going through that. The smelly output may give some clues as to what's going on, but there are a lot of variables to consider. I hope this article gave you some starting point to investigate.

The burning is a problem and could get much worse if not addressed. Do you have a stoma nurse you can speak to?

My suggestions would be to use a gelling product inside of your bag and a barrier ring until your skin is given some time to heal. Dietary modifications can also help, but that depends on why the output is smelly.

Skin prep. / barrier wipes are often used to protect the skin from output. I don't know if you're familiar with these products. There are many companies that make them.

Has anyone tried waiting to drink liquids an hour before and an hour after eating? Sometimes it works for me, often not. When I limit my water this way, I end up feeling dehydrated.

@gardengypsy I've tried this with no change in the result. In fact, I can down two liters of water during a meal or not drink at all and my output will be pretty consistent. LOL

But... it does have a profound effect on some people.

@gardengypsy  ... Same results here! I always have very watery with a rare bout of thicker. I prefer drinking more to help prevent blockages.

Linda,

I agree about keeping things fluid in order to avoid blockages (and pancaking). Finding the balance is difficult.

Today I drank whenever I wanted to, and felt much better. So the trick is, how do I keep my skin from being affected by the liquid output?

Gardengypsy ... Hi Mere !  Lets start with a few questions.

Are you using the Skin Barrier Wipes & or Spray? How are you using them? How many wipes?

What kinds of fluids are you drinking?

Do you lay flat to sleep?

Have you tried journaling your intake of foods & fluids to see if this helps you figure out what may he causing the issues? Sometime output colour will give you a clue as to whats going on. Yellow- ish if your drinking Orange Juice it may be too high acid. Scale back on acidic fluids. Do you drink milk products at all?  What kind?   I drink about 4 glasses a day & really notice when I do not. Even odour increases when I don't drink milk products.

Do you have any open sores under your wafer ?  If so have you seen a. Ostomy Nurse or your GP about these issues?   If you can't  see one, what have you tried to heal your skin?

Linda
