Hey there, first I want to thank Veganostomy for his great posts on his travel kit, since they were super helpful on my path to find a travel kit/purse that works for me! I ended up purchasing a purse designed for diabetic supplies. Details and my review of it are here:

But feel free to ask me questions!

Eric, I was inspired by a travel kit you showed in a video, and designed and quilted one of my own.  It hangs from a loop and the bottom half stays horizontal so I have a shelf.  It holds everything I could possibly need (including directions for emergency room staff) in an organized way.  I have open pockets, zipped pockets, straps to hold small bottles (including room spray).  I made it large enough that everything is easy to access, and the whole thing fits easily into my backpack.

Instead of wet wipes, I wet down paper towels and put them in a zip top bag.  They have to be checked and changed regularly, but they're cheap and non-toxic.

Also, my home health nurse quoted you, saying how impressed she was with the information you have posted, and a manufacturer asked where I heard about their product (your site was one of the choices I was given).  You are to be given credit for the most and best help I got in leaning about ostomies before I got mine, and I still go to your site to look for answers to my questions.

Thank you for your inspiration, information, and all the work you put into helping others!

Sue

Thanks, Sue!

I'm so grateful for your kind words.

Your travel kit sounds nice!! I wish I was better at sewing, as I'm sure I'd whip up a few ostomy accessories of my own! I'm glad that you've been able to quilt a bag that's totally customized to you liking!

Feel free to post a photo of it here :)

So this is the purse I ordered while in the hospital:  http://www.thinkgeek.com/product/14b2/ I love that it's rugged and has a lot of pockets to organize stuff.

ConvaTec and some other companies sent me little emergency kit bags and it fits great in that purse! I have enough space for 2-3 changes in this bag with my deep convex wafers.

That's a really nice bag - and the hook makes it so useful! I have a bag from Coloplast that's meant to hold ostomy supplies and it works great! I use it in the bathroom as it hands nicely on the rack above my toilet when I do appliance changes :)

Sue, welcome to this forum and thanks for the tips. Great idea to wet paper towels and put them in a zip-pock bag. I became allergic to those flushable wipes ( as do many people. They delvelop an allergy to the preservatives in the fluid...so says my dermatologist). So that will be useful

and,

also Welcome, Amanda. Thanks for the picture of the cool Convatec bag. I got a few things when I was 'starting out', but this looks really MUCH better.

I had the same bag as yours, Amanda, 2 years ago, and since then, I've been looking for a new one because it's ripping apart and getting old...

I get what you are saying because I've had a bag that I used for 6 years and changed it only because it ripped, and at that moment, I knew that it could not last any longer, as much as I wished.
