This is a good point Liza, Am sure there are convex users that will be able to share. ileostomy 31st August 1994 for Crohns Hi Liza, I use the Hollister New Image, CeraPlus ( also marked as Remois), convex wafers. They are quite flexible all around the edges ..where the tapes are. When you get to the ring ( where the bag snaps on like tupperware) its quite rigid. But thats just in the area of the ring. The center inch and a quarter of the plate is stiff, and that also area where the convexity is. The entire plate/wafer is 4 inches across. ( 10.5 cm ). This is a two piece system. These work very well for me. I change every 6 to 7 days now. Gotten better over time. Good luck. Onset of severe Ulcerative Colitus Oct.2012. Subtotal colectomy with illiostomy July 2015; Peristomal hernia repair ( Sugarbaker, mesh, laparoscopic) May 2017. Thanks Dona!! I will check them out, for sure. -Liza Hi Liza, I am sorry that the SenSura Mio convex system didn't work out for you. I use the light convex with paste. I do find them to be comfortable and flexible, but everyone is different, and you have to find what works for you. To avoid pancaking, I "inflate" my bag slightly* and use the shower cover over the filter as I find the filter to be overly effective. * I do this by creating a reverse vacuum. I open up the bottom of the bag, and while holding it with one hand and keeping it opened, I pinch the top side of the bag with the other and lift. This creates the reverse vacuum and inflates the bag. If there is too much of an inflation, I adjust accordingly. I hope this is a clear explanation. Stella Thanks Stella, I will try that. The Sensura Mio felt like it worked better in the beginning, but getting leaks every day now is getting really discouraging. I can't remember that last time I went a whole day without having to change. I am more than happy to explore other reasons I may be getting leaks. Especially since I still have 4 boxes of the Sensura Mio. I have been mostly using the one piece ones. When I changed it last night, I put on a two piece, so we'll see if that makes a difference. 🤞 -Liza Hi guys, Egad! I realized I made an error in terms. A vacuum is a sucking in of air as we all know, whereas I used the term "reverse vacuum"! (I didn't have my second cup of java at that point.) One does not want a reverse vacuum in our situation! the term vacuum is often used loosely,. when we drink thru a straw, we are not sucking liquid up the straw, but creating lower air pressure with our lungs at our mouth. the air pressure in the room is actually pushing the liquid to our mouths. while reverse vacuum sounds odd, I knew what you meant- pressure.. I've never associated a totally flat bag against my body as a problem. for me a small air pocket in the bag reduces my movement and I do not like it one bit. pancaking is just really thick sticky output. for me, pancaking and the so-called vacuum are not related. they can occur at the same time, but one does not create the other. I know everybody is different but for me, having just a little air in the bag seems to help with my pancaking situation. Colostomy 4/30/18. I tend to agree with this as well. I don't know for sure if it prevents it for me, but having a little air in there makes it easier to deal with the pancaking. -Liza The presence of air in the pouch mitigates the vacuum effect that forces the bag to tighten against the output, preventing the bag from basically squishing at the output and pressing it against the wafer. Tony Yes I have a recessed stoma and very firm output. The convex barrier had helped tremendously. I use ConvaTec 2 piece barrier and pouches. The barrier says on thru multiple showers. I don’t have leakage problems but I do have problems with the firm output not moving into the pouch and trying to push out the side of the barrier. Since I switched to ConvaTec convex I have no more problems. PTL! Good Luck to you. :-)
